Team name: Team Badger - Mission Imp-Possible

Hi there guys,
My name is Olly Rowland (20) and next year I am taking part in the 2009 Mongol Rally along with my team mate Frank Claydon (20). I am currently training to become a stuntman for films and television, while Frank is doing a degree in motorsport engineering at Swansea Metropolitan University.

The Mongol Rally starts in Londons Hyde Park on the 18th of July, and finishes approximately 4-5 weeks later in UlaanBaatar in Mongolia! The whole journey is going to be roughly 10,000 miles. Around 200 teams enter, and there is no specific route to take.

Regarding the vehicles allowed to enter the rally. They have to be worth less than £1000 and they have to have a 1 litre engine or less. Our vehicle of choice for this epic expedition, is, wait for it .... an old Hillman Imp!!!

Thats right, we plan on taking a Hillman Imp all the way to Mongolia! Frank owns a Hillman Imp as his day to day car, so will hopefully know how to fix our Imp for the rally if (when) it breaks down!

The whole rally is done for charity. Initially, we have paid £650 entrance fee, and now have to raise £1000 for one of the organisers charities. The charity we have chosen is the Christina Noble Childrens Foundation. The Christina Noble Children's Foundation is dedicated to serving children in need of emergency and long-term medical care, nutritional rehabilitation, educational opportunities, job placement and protecting those at risk of economic and sexual exploitation. The Foundation seeks to maximise the potential of each child.
Charity Registration No 1007484. http://www.cncf.org/en/home/index.php

Now we have our place on the rally, we need help from anyone and everyone! Be it donating money to our charity, donating spare Imp parts including wheels and tyres, tools, big 25litre Metal Jerry cans, jump leads, tow ropes etc. Absolutly anything you think we might need!

If you would like to donate money to our charity, then please go to our donation page at: http://www.justgiving.com/missionimppossible_cncf

If you have any either items you would be able to donate to us, or if you are able to offer us any media coverage then please email me at orowland@gmail.com

Also, if you know of or own a company which would be willing to sponsor us some of the money to go towards the car or our visas, then please email me at the same address!

To see our team website (which we are currently improving but the skeleton is there) please visit:

Cheers for taking the time to read this guys, we both really appreciate it!

Good luck with the rally, would love to do it myself one day.

Are you aware there's also another Mongolia Rally that is entirely non-profit and only costs £200 to enter?
http://mongolia.charityrallies.org/

Be careful with your choice of car, the Mongolian government is meant to be cracking down on the vehicles they allow to be imported next year due to the amount of scrap metal being imported.
Nothings confirmed yet but there's a bit about it on the above website.

Agreed 100%. The other one is run entirely for profit with only the monies the teams raise going to charity.

Charity Rallies monies ALL go to charity (entry fee, the whole lot). As a result, I am doing it with these guys: http://mongolia.charityrallies.org/

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update for those that are interested. Frank and I have managed to beat our £1000 target for the Christina Noble Childrens Foundation, which is really good news, and we did it in less than two months which is great.

We are now collecting for our own charities, Diabetes UK and Cancer Research UK. The justgiving links are below and would be brilliant if you guys can show some support and donate a little bit! Would be really really appreciated.

Cancer Research UK - http://www.justgiving.com/missionimppossible_cance...

We also now have our car! A 1972 Hillman Imp! It is in a bit of a state at the moment, but we will be starting work on it over the next few weeks/months to make sure it is in full working order for the start of the rally in July.

I'm not sure how to upload pictures onto here, so if you would like to see the car visit our website at:

Cheers guys,

Olly Rowland
