Going to New York at the end of the month, (going for mrsthewifes 40th) staying at the Hilton, Garden Inn, Times Square (I don't want to buy the bl00dy place, but from the price I'm not too sure!!). Flights & hotel all paid for but travel agents phoned today to tell us the original flight on the Saturday has been cancelled . . . .
Luckily they can get us on the Friday flight at no extra cost, but it means we'll be an extra night in NYC (hotel booking none refundable or alterable). Single extra nights at the same hotel are even more expensive than the original booking, so hence I'm on here to see if any 'heads can recommend a 'decent' fairly central hotel . . . .

We stayed in the jumeriah essex house hotel overlooking central park. Was very nice but rather pricey. We stayed for a long weekend and had a thoroughly good time.

Glad you've said that, I'm off for my first NY visit on Friday and staying in the very same.

Millennium Hilton in the financial district? 4 star hotel but it's not bad on price due to the construction work going on at Ground Zero.

We stayed here, it's literally a minutes stroll onto times square.

It's a bit poncey and the room was pokier than I expected but the location was pretty good for TS and Broadway. It has a copy of the Kama Sutra in the bedside cabinet as opposed to the usual Gideon special...that sold it for me smile

Can't remember exactly how much we were for the room for the 4 nights but I don't think there was much change out of a grand.

That one looks promising - just less than £200 for the one night

as I'm northern, I'm finding it hard to justify what these hotels charge for an overnight stay!!

Trump Tower, 17th(highest)floor over looking Central Park.Bumped into Steven Tyler when we stayed there. Not open to non residents so very quiet and security is second to none. Have also stayed at the Best Western on W47th, nothing to see out the windows but about 50 paces from Times Sq. Can highly recomend both. Must go to Juniors if you like cheesecakeyum

We stayed at the Millenium Broadway, literally 30 secs walk to Times Sq on W44th/W45th. Really nice place and not that expensive by NY standards.

Affinia 50 , E50th Street.

Great hotel with relatively large rooms for Manhattan.

We stayed at The Exchange on Wall Street. Good solid hotel, nice and quiet and a good base if you want to spend a day exploring the financial district, Ground Zero, Liberty Island etc etc before heading to a new base up town...

And another vote.

The Bryant Park Hotel is also very good. Cool and trendy and in a nice part of the city too.

Renaissance Hotel - Times Sq is a really nice marriot..

Can eat breakfast whilst looking over Times Sq if that's your sort of thing, i'd sooner go exploring the city in the morning!
