Taking over a mobile phone contract -o2.

O/H has recently had an upgrade on his mobile - 18 month contract. I am due for an upgrade in the next couple of days. We are both with o2. He has just been given a mobile for work so therefore no longer needs his o2 contract. Does anyone know if, rather than me getting an upgrade and new contract, whether I would be able to take over his contract but keep my phone number? I'd also possibly want to change his tarrif plan.
We are going to call o2 tomorrow but I wondered if anyone on here had any experience of this before I ring them.....

If you have are due an upgrade that essentially means you're contract is up, you do not actually have to renew it. Therefore you could probably just finish yours and take his as your own.

if you upgrade, that means that you have taken a new phone and a new contract.
