Stupidly today I placed my Nationwide Flex Account card in a Barclays cash machine and entered the wrong pin number from my credit card three times without realising what a fool I'd been. The machine kept my card.

The bank have access to the machine but state they are following their rules to return the card to whoever issued it (I didn't reveal the card company to them) for it to be destroyed. Am I within my rights to have my card returned tomorrow after they have accessed the cash machine this evening after closed bank time and retrieved my card into their branch?

TIA

Don't bank cards remain the property of the bank...?

I think from a fraud perspective, by entering the wrong code three times you've done enough for them to doubt you are who you say you are. The card will be returned to Nationwide and they'll destroy it and issue a new one.

Barclays won't enter into a conversation with you because the liability would be on them if they gave the card to the wrong person.

Just tell the Nationwide what you did and you'll get a new card within 5 days

On a similar note, I forgot the user id for my online banking tonight. The same user id that I have had for about 8 years or more, and if not used daily, then at least weekly since then.

Spent a good ten minutes trying every combination I can think of, only to end up requesting a new one. 10 seconds after I hit the request button I remembered the old one... which no longer works and I have to wait for a new one to arrive in the post.

I'm an idiot.

Amazing I can't just go to Barclays tomorrow, give them the pin number and show my passport and other relevant id to claim my Nationwide card back, rather than pi55 about going through the hassle of getting a new card.

Thanks all. The Barclays liability issue nailed it for me I think. That I understand. Reluctantly.

I'm still an idiot.
