(Hopefully not a re-post)
New "Apprentice style" programme starts this eve. Prepare for more shouting at the TV.

New series, episode one, Thursday 2 October, ITV1

They are pushy, they are ambitious and they think they can sell anything to anyone – whatever it takes, and whatever the cost.

Eight salespeople have put their careers on hold, their reputations on the line, and are risking it all over six weeks for the ultimate buzz - to close the biggest deal of their lives.

Replacing the existing workforce in real businesses across the UK, these ruthless professionals must hit aggressive sales targets, earn maximum commission and as a result push their combined kitty of cash ever higher.

Each with buckets of self confidence they consider them-selves to be at the top of their game whether in used cars, telesales or advertising, and all have their own unique patter that they believe stands them apart from the others.

Brash IT sales expert Thea isn’t afraid to use her sexuality to succeed while salt of the earth Essex car salesman Danny says of his technique “I’ll walk the horse to water just as many times as it’ll take to drink.”

However living the life of the travelling salesmen won’t be easy or glamorous, and whether they are selling three piece suites, door to door double glazing or super luxury limousines the pressure is on to get the customers in and close that deal.

When the sales deadline is up, the final scrabble for the orders book has passed and the figures collated, entrepreneur John Caudwell will referee proceedings, to ensure there’s been no rules of sale broken.

The harder each salesperson works, the more they earn, the more they earn, the greater the prize. Each week, for one of the bottom two performers it will be the end of the road, as their fate lies solely in the hands of that week’s highest grossing salesman. By the final week, three salespeople will be left but only one will be able to be ‘top dog’.

"Top of their game in Used Cars, Telesales or Advertising"

Well; isnt that just the triumvate of sales quality.

I've not seen this show, or read much past that sentence in the article above but I've got this sneaking suspicion that they're all, including the narrator, going to be utter utter s.

Will have to watch this me-thinks, if only for the shouting at the TV moments. Two things are certain.

  • These people will be obnoxious-
  • They will be crap at selling-

I'm going to need a new telly tomorrow morning if I watch this. I'm getting all 'shouty' just thinking how this program is going to turn out.

Agreed. Does sales attract these bellends more than other careers, or are they simply more visible?

Dont get me wrong, a great great salesman/woman is a wonderful thing, the truly born sellers practice an art.

It does however attract triers and there is nothing worse than people trying to sell. Its like watching people try to be funny. You just want to sympathise.

It just makes me cringe, so many of my clients get utterly fed up with over keen sales people.

I've had the fourth sales call this week about a $200 piece of software today. Call once every couple of weeks to "touch-base" but every day????

Loons...

Its a job you need no qualifications or experience to do. Estate agents, recruitment 'consultant', mobile phone sales etc. Bullstters in cheap suits.

Cue someone posting the 'Coffee is for closers' vid.

What's my name? You came here in a Hyundai and I came in an $80,000 BMW. F*uck you. That's my name.

I enjoyed the young chaps lie quote "last year, I earned between £80 - £100k".

I am in sales & I know damned well how much I earned last year, pretty much to the nearest penny. I also know the year before that & the year before that ad infinitum. As sales people, you are judged on two things & two things alone:

1: Figures
2: CSAT

There is no "I earned between this & that" vagueary.

[footnote]I have absolutely no idea how you spell vaguery / vagueary. Any ideas more than welcome!{/footnote]

Watching this now, glad I'm not the only one who thinks this 'lead loser' is a complete, utter, weapons grade Kant...

Surprised 'Thea' hasn't whopped them out by now...
