Ok I sent my son to school with stringed conkers - one for everyone so he can have fun in the play ground. He was told he could give them out at breaktime, but the kids had to put them in their bags and not play with them! Has our country gone mad! Why can't they play conkers at school like we did????? It's fun, aren't kids allowed to have fun anymore! Damn silly if you ask me!

Yes, sadly they were banned after several public boys schools were found tying them to string and using them as anal beads.

A bit of common sense for once

From the article:

The HSE said the safety risk from playing conkers was "incredibly low and not worth bothering about".

^^^ That. The self same morons who would happily feed their child a kebab every night will get very upset if their 'little darling' hurts a finger. And, they'll smell money. frown

From the HSE 'Myths' section on their website.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/myth/september.pdf

As usual, the problem is not with the legislation or the HSE but with moronic misinterpretation.

Little boys play conkers.

Little girls tend not to.

Grown up girls are key voters in the UK.

Hence the law is dictated by the worries of grown up girls. Applied to all children
and indeed all adults who are now treated like children by nanny.

But I'm a grown up girl! Bloody angry one for schools being over protective and damn stupid! Why can't kids just be kids!

They ban them every year, and it gets reported here and in the Daily Mail.

It all hinges on the same reason 'Wet Floor' signs are in every public place frequented by chav scum, even if the floor is bone dry, just in case.

Your head sounds like my primary school head. She used to whine on about there being no winners or losers. If you take part, you are all winners. What a load of ste she came up with!

You know what I will! Thanks beanbag! Honestly it just winds me up! Kids learn by playing and if you take that away how the hell are they going to learn and treat people with respect! We all learnt didn't we!

Do it! Killjoys should not be allowed to take the fun out of childhood because of their own skewed ideas.

At which point you said "Tell that to the Germans / Japanese / insert any other big losses in history", right?
