Okies - I need some help on this

I've been on Zyban for a week, now started the 2 tablets a day, and - woohoo no cravings biggrin

BUT - what do I do instead?

I need something to do with my hands when I'm having a drink frown

Please, keep it clean biggrin

Stop taking pills, patches etc, stop smoking. People have difficulty stopping smoking because they think they are having difficulty.

It's not an addiction, it's an obsession. Realise that, and deal with it in that basis, and you will be able to stop.

Actually, if you do find something useful, I'll need to know in a couple of days too (stopping when I get back up to Edinburgh). When I quit a few years ago, my drinking speed (and consequently volume) went up a huge amount and I put on a fair bit of weight.

Try not to drink.... i know it sounds dreadful... but all the alcohol does is lower your resistance until you think it's ok just 'to have one'.

I stopped in March and it does get easier with time...but I found that drinking is probably the worst thing to do.

Remember the craving's only last for about 60 seconds at a time, so as soon as you feel one, change what you are doing... get up, walk round the house, do the washing up, pick your nose...whatever...

keep it up...you are doing great! biggrin

Ali -

I stopped 7 weeks ago. I had 10 at Britcar as a 'treat' but haven't missed them really. Cold turkey too. Just don't have one. Simple as. The craving goes after 20 seconds.

If you need something to do with your other hand, hold an additional drink or eat some crisps. Don't worry about getting fat. Just shag more to burn it off.

Alternatively, regress to an earlier age and imagine what you did as a kid before you ever smoked. See, you don't need them.

The Zyban - it works, after all the patches, gum, tabs, etc - these work biggrin

It's just, there is something missing when I have a drink - which I also could give up, but....... nah rofl

fussy woman ...ok....

text people

flick things at people (not bogeys then obviously)

twirl your hair flirtatiously (sp?)

play cats in the cradle with a peice of string

have two drinks at once, takes up both hands then

any better?

Ali - it really helps. Just go back to when you were a kid, mentally. You really didn't need smoke and the same applies now. Powerful thing, the mind.

Either you've never been a smoker or you've got imperfect Dopamine receptors singlecoil. Well meaning but inaccurate advice is a scourge for the quitter.

Keep at it A K.
