I have neighbours who breed dogs for a living. They have two German setters and produce several litters a year. They keep them in their garage and the amount of barking and whining coming from there is constant and intensely annoying. All the other neighbours are fed up with it too.
I have contacted the council and spoken to the animal warden about it. She was sympathetic but said the law was a bit toothless on this one in so much as they can be told to pack it in and if they do then that's the end of it. Every time they have a new litter it's a new complaint and they can't be done retrospectively for past nuisances.
I have filled in diaries of the barking, as requested by the animal warden, but nothing changes.
The RSPCA has been round and said the dogs are in a good condition.
The owners are "Shameless" types and have no respect for anyone else living around them.
Has anyone else had a similar problem in the past, and if so, was it ever solved? All advice welcome!

Read a story somewhere recently about dog lovers only being allowed to keep a certain number of dogs on their property. Not sure where ??
My neighbour's dog was barking a lot and getting on my nerves last year, mainly when left alone. I mentioned it to her in passing and to her credit she tried to address the problem, shortly after the dog died - boy, did I feel bad for complaining.

A bit ironic really when so many people (here) have noisy cars.
It is really easy to train a dog not to bark excessively.
I would keep complaining adding that they are not making any effort to correct the situation. If that fails buy a TVR.
Not really a comparison, is it?It is really easy to train a dog not to bark excessively.

Do the folks with noisy cars just sit in them and constantly blip the throttle outside their house for hours at a time?

Under the terms of my FreeHOLD, I can not run a business involving live stock, or animals of any kind. I can keep pets, but not for profit. Also, if I run a business from home, I need to apply for planning permission for change of use.
There is not a fine line between, keeping a couple of dogs which happen to breed sometimes, and running a puppy farm.
Also I bet income tax is not paid on profit. (Tax man should be able to check with kennel club records maybe, to get an approximate figure)
A little late now but a friend of ours had a similar problem, dog barking all night ect etc.
Complained to council, apparently they classed it as noise pollution sent someone round late at night when it happened alot to listen, they agreed, and sent some guy round to install noise monitors.
That was a couple of weeks ago - presumably the noise monitors will be looked at and then a decision will be made.

Had a very similar occurance when a neighbour kept three collies in his front garden in a wire compound.I have contacted the council and spoken to the animal warden about it. Police, Council etc etc everyone was informed as these dogs barked without breathing for six hours non stop every day, We had young kids and they couldn't sleep.
The authorities were hopeless.
Drove me to attempting to smash the neighbours front door down in frustration after months of the same. He even used to throw the crap onto the pavement.
The problem was solved by planning who said he didn't have permission for the compound. So it have to be removed and the dogs were kept inside.
In your case the garage may not be elligible as a kennel. Are any petrols etc kept in it?
Also do they have permission to run a business from their home? I would speak to coucil planning as asking the police or the environment people is a waste of time and only boils your piss.
I realise your problem has already been solved by them moving out, but I would have thought if they were breeding dogs then this would be classed as a kennels, which would need to be licensed as such. I was thinking of setting up a doggy day care business (yes, there is a demand!) and would need to be licensed by the LA as a kennels.
You all make very valid points, especially those about running a business from home. You simply wouldn't believe how toothless the authorities have been on this one.
However, they will soon be gone so it's the result I've been looking for.
They've also sold all but one of their puppies so the noise level has been reduced dramatically.
