I have the morning off as I'm getting some tyres sorted and I am sitting here watching a two year old property developing program. Listening to people saying they have no experience of developing but can't fail at it/everyone is making money on property/property won't stop increasing in value is making me chuckle. I do wonder how these people are getting on now. More importantly does the BBC not think they are taking the piss a bit still showing these things when the housing market is nose diving and most of the properties are probably repossesed by now. I was thinking the same myslef this morning. Program filmed in Dec 06. Full auction house. Bids way over estimate.

The BBC should be shot.

It does seem a bit daft to be showing this sort of thing when so many of these people are probably up st creek about now. Almost distasteful.

Wait until the new series of Property Ladder airs.

But then there will be a different kind of property programme on TV in this climate, the ones that buy cheap/renovate cheap and rent out. Then later sell on when the market recovers.

What has happened to the word "programme" I ask?

I can't wait for all these property based shows to be junked.

My apologies, I suppose 'program' relates to software or is just another Americanism.

It's good to remind people how deluded they were - some have a very short term memory.

It's both.

"Program" is the American spelling based on the 19th Century rewrite by Websters. As computing is dominated by the US, "program" has now become the legitimate way to spell the word when talking about computers. As a result, it seems to be gradually usurping the Britih/English original "programme" - which by rights should be used for all other types of non-computer "programmes".

The same effect is happening with the use of the word "licence". Increasingly, the Webster's version "license" is the default spelling for British writers - especially on PH smile

I lay a portion of blame on the current creek we are paddling up without a paddle on these type of programme's

I am sure the bulk of them never included half the costs involved just a simple they spent x amount buying it and y amount refurbishing it and now it is worth z amount giving them a potential profit of eleventy million pounds

What about mortgage payments, legals, agency percentage and tax ,no wonder the numpties where like lambs to the slaughter

Talking of Lambs Amanda is quite fit in a mummy kind of way though lick

Dont worry about the failing economy and house prices. If you put cash in the attic on on bbc1 now you will see that every house has at least a couple of grands worth of st in the loft.

I have never subscribed to any of this sort of programming, with the exception of "The Antiques Roadshow" perhaps, which predates the current crop of materialistic money grabbing shows by a couple of decades.

I always felt that they pandered to the worst form of materialism and greed and am not sorry in many ways that the whole bandwagon has crashed into a ditch.

Maybe a dose of real "reality" is what we all need.

They always clearly state the legals, fees and interest payments on Property Ladder?

Property Ladder did take those into consideration when adding up the total spend on a project. It's just most and in some case all of the profit made consisted of local market increases in property values. Many of the projects could have made similar profits by purely holding onto it for 6 months and selling on the property without doing any work at all.

Why did they need to put in a reference to "Snakes" anyway? I would have thought that most people realise that one can use a ladder in both an upward and dowmnward direction.
