Russia is rebuilding its Empire in a new wave of nationalism and wealth. And they know that no-one will try to stop them - because last time they did (Germany vs Poland), it started WW2. Russia will not see Ukraine as a different country, merely a province that lapsed, so it will see it not as invasion of another sovereign country but as reclaimation/liberation etc.
