Hi,

Quick question, has anyone done a cambelt on a 1800 petrol focus? just need to know how difficult, if any special tools are required etc? I'm being asked to do one but just want to check before i commit.

Thanks in advance

Some 1.8 lumps on the Focus are chain drive aren't they? Obviously that means some aren't, but have you checked?

Old mk1 focus' 1.8 and 2.0 engines are belt driven, mk2 focus duratec engines are chain driven.

You won't need any special tools other than the locking kit which can be bought pretty cheaply over the internet, or maybe even through ford parts?

Thanks for the pointers. I dont have any info on the age of the car, my dads been asking if i want to do it for a friend of his. From what i can find on the net the belt tensioner should always be changed as that usually goes before the belt.

You can buy a complete belt kit with tensioner etc cheap enough altough if you buy from ford you need to buy the idle pully separate for some reasonconfused
The locking kit can be bought for under tenner.
You will also need a rocker cover gasket as need to remove it to lock the cams with the tool.
