Although I love my 993 C4 (which I have only had for about 6 months, I rally miss the sheer power I had with my R34 VSpec Skyline (which had more than 400BHP).
Thus I would like to think about buying a 993 TT.
It would have to be right hand drive and full history.
What kind of money would I need to find for one of these and is there anything I should really be watching for.
Additionally, who makes the most cost effective ECU upgrade for the 993TT? and what does it bring power/torque up to?

There's a RHD one in 911 & Pork World this month for £40K. Cheapest RHD I've seen. Sounds nice too.

£40k is certainly very low indeed; generally, the indy dealers seem to be circa £45-£55k and the OPCs still in the £50-£60k+ territory, depending on the odo reading.

This is the least depreciative chunk of rolling metal I've ever partaken of and even with 996 versions now heading south, the air cooled bods are putting up some kind of 'modern classic' fight ito used values. I mean, these things are hardly ten a penny from what I've seen on the highways and byways.

Reliability? 100% bullet proof, end of story.

The basic car is crushingly competent and despite missing out on later electronic stabilisation systems (PSM), with 'only' 408 bhp and the C4's mechanical 4wd set-up, you will be still be able to play roundabouts with Skylines...even in the wet.

Depending on how far you boost the grunt crystals will determine to what extent you compromise the car's basically indominatable poise: from experience, having added more than 20% over the last three years has satisfied my desire to mimmick a ground based V2 missile but the pay-off means that a normally aspirated 996C4 will humiliate you in very wet conditions (Silverstone recently, in clearly mental conditions had me reaching for the chicken switch on several occasions).

In the dry, however, the sheer grip is as phenomenal as ever and you can resume normal service (I recently had the drive of my life up in Northumberland on a relentless B road and the there was never any sense of overkill: it was a journey of pure elation, a proper 'next level of driving' 911 type baptism, I'm sure of it!

The mods themselves are harmless to the design. Built to withstand several thousand horsepower, anything less than 600 gee-gees can be achieved whilst retaining aspects of driveability: take your pick from any of the specialists on offer. Despite all the bollock talk most of the components used appear to conform to similar tolerances from which ever supplier/techie you use and with a little guidance from the Porsche Club GB and one or two nutters on here, you'll be ok. The limiting factor is your wallet and your level of (in)sanity!

The one upgrade I would say is mandatory on these cars, however, is to the exhaust: you may get a better response too but sod that - it should go a long way to reminding you you're in a 911 not a Cyclone TZ1200 from Mr Dyson...certainly, my CarGraphic exhaust transformed the experience.

And one other thing I'm sure Domster will second - and something I reckon is well worthwhile (and doesn't spoil the character of the basic concept) - is to look at wacking in some bucket seats. I'm inthe process of deciding between GT3 or some nicely retrimmed Recaros and both look just fine when installed.

All in all, I really think you should. Then at least I can talk complete garbage to somebody about cars and not just the reintroduction of neo-feudalism.

Go on: it's the ultimate car in the universe!

Chin, chin.

A bit off topic, but what mods have you got derestrictor?? Thinking of modifing my lovely stock TT.
As regards to Daves intial question, have a look at the autotrader site for prices of 993TT`s. Plenty in there from private sellers to OPC.

Evening, Ronnie (lovely car, btw )

Aside from the replacement exhaust mentioned, although it looks el boggo 993tt, quite a few changes have been wrought c/o Phil Hindley's spanner set at Tech9 Motorsport (originally recommended to me by resident experts at the PCGB [so I was more than happy to progress...])

The performance upgrades have thus far been largely CarGraphic based, including replacement ECU, air filter, uprated sports cams and of course, larger hybrid turbos. I've also had a couple of different spring & damper set ups but the current Bilstein job gives great results. And for some reason, I was persauded to have a GT2 rear roll bar installed. God knows why.

Brake-wise, Pagids were used for a while and were really exceptional but the latest Performance Friction clampers are astonishing: they squeal like hell but it's brick wall city and induced ABS chatter seems to be constantly on the menu when hooning hard.

Cosmetically, I've avoided anything that dilutes the melted cheese profile (apart from some neatly blended gutter covers for high speed work) but internally as mentioned, buckets are definately next up and then a final tweak in Scotty's engine bay should equate to at least 550 bhp (currently 493): that's a big job which won't yield results until next year but the differential in performance is nothing short of staggering [it's a guaranteed 200 at least but how you get there, too, is cause for celebration in itself].

The 996 is a more rounded package but I've blown too much wonga to contemplate the switch now: I guess I'll just have to learn how to drive the thing!

There's a nutter called Iguana on here who I suspect could give guidance in that department!

Cheers

DeR.
