Hi guys,
I have been advice to asked you lot with regard to my 2001 Audi A3. For some reason the ABS keeps kicking in with out touching the brake. Seems to be the driver side front wheel which will suddenly pulse the brake then the systerm go off and the dash light comes on. I was thinking of taking it to Audi to attach there fancy kit to but at £97 an hour labour rate i thought i should ask around first.
Its abit worrying when your driving down the motor way and the car will pull to the right with out warning.
Is there a way of switching the ABS off while i find out whats wrong with it??

Thank you.
Alex

On VW golfs of that age ( same running gear) there is a recall for the ABS electronics whihc is to fix a fault with the abs control unit whihc can in some instances lead to a fire. As it's the same basic car, suggest you check with the dealer if there is a recall for this and if your car is one that shoul dbe checked. If it is this fault, replacement should be free from Audi.

Check the abs ring which is tucked behind the disc. If it is bent or rusty the abs sensor doesn't see it and thinks you have locked your wheel.
Audi are not the garages who can fix Audis.

You need to get hold of a bit of software called VAG-Com from Ross-tech.com or find someone who's got it. Has the ABS light come on?

Same problem on my previous car.

Damaged abs ring (couple of teeth missing) so sensor did not see ring and thought wheels had locked.
Occurs only at low spped (less thsn 10mph on my Jag)
