Goodbye to SVA!!!

Not sure if this has been covered before, but have just been reading that the SVA inspection is planned to be superseded by a BIVA inspection. The planned launch date is April 2009.
Having read the article in October Kit Car mag it would seem that there are going to be some changes which may effect us Ultima builders in the UK, like increased fees, longer test, changes in requirements etc.
Of course there is no BIVA manual available as yet! so who can tell!
Looks as if we must work harder and faster throughout the winter on our builds to beat the deadline.

The draft of the IVA inspection manual is on the VOSA web site to download Here
Have not found any show stoppers in it yet. Actually found it better than SVA as it is more detailed and therefore clearer on what has to be achieved. This will in turn ease some of the variation that happens as individual testers try to interpret the requirement.

Yes goodbye to SVA and hello to (Home Built Vehicle) which is more of a lights and tires check her in Canada..... Pity I wont miss that 4 hour test

Great Link Steve. I agree with you. It's a lot less ambiguous than the old test. Still at nearly 3 times the cost, I am trying hard to get mine done before the change...Have not found any show stoppers in it yet. Painful as it may be I've just put another car through SVA (Dakar 4x4) and it took 6 hours. That's £32 an hour which is a pretty low rate compared to just getting a service done by the YTS kid.Steve
