With the current credit climate......i thought i would look for a bargain barge to use on the weekends.....my local garage has a higher mileage (112,000) S-Type 3.0SE for sale at £4000.00 but open to close offers........is it worth a punt at this money.....full history ...nice overall condition

what do you think????

Could be expensive depending on age. Look on e-bay and Autotrader to get an idea of others on offer. If I wee looking I would try for a 4 litre, fuel consumption is about the same;)

That's even better lots of improvements on the post 02 cars.
It needs the autobox checked carefully & all the heating controls. If possible get someone who knows what they're doing or owns one to go with you. That way they can check everything works.

As a bit of an indicator of current private sale prices, I bought the following last week;

S-type, 2004 (53 plate), 2.5 V6 petrol SE Auto, 50k miles, full main dealer history, 1 owner, all the toys except sat nav, Ultraviolet Blue, good condition barring a couple of scrapes on the bumper (poss £100 or so to repair). £5000

I took it to the local Jag dealer and he said that they would have taken it in as trade at £5000, cleaned up the scuffs and put it on the forecourt at £7500.

up until recently i also thought about a cheap s-type but after testing a few around the seven grand mark i decided to look elsewhere.they all had something or other wrong with them and one even broke down on a test drive.they are cheap for a reason, sorry but id look at other ways of wasting 4 grand if i was you.
