Carry-on from the M6 SPECS thread....

Both of the SPECS covered areas near Manchester are lacking something...

...An NSL board at the end of the roadworks. There is an "end" sign for the roadworks - but no change in limit.

Does this mean the 40 and 50 limits are unenforcable - or that the speedlimit on the rest of the motorway is still 40?

No. The 'road works + end' sign indicates the end of the temporary limit. 70 MPH signs should only be provided in the special case where the 'real' limit changed during the roadworks.
The NSL ('derestriction') sign should never be used on motorways.
Even if the 'end of limit signs' were invalid, there is no speed limit order for the lower limit after the roadworks, so the limit is still 70.
