Do "Super Watches" ever actually get worn?
Discussion
Looking at the yummylicious Greubel Forsey watch in the "free watch from El Stovey" thread, and knowing not its exact price, just that it's measured in hundreds of thousands of pounds, I wonder - do the fortunate owners of these fabulous minimachines ever dare to wear them?
I suppose they must do, but I'd be properly nervous in any public place, if I had several hundred large's worth on my wrist...

Not sure about "super watches" but I know people with watches up to circa £100k and they do wear them from time to time but of course have more "normal" watches for day to day. I liken it to owning say a Zonda or Veyron etc, you wouldn't commute in it every day but for those special occasions there is nothing better than making use of your pride and joy.
I occasionally get lent one of a pair of £60-£70k watches that my boss owns and you do feel very aware of it and of the people who notice it. In this case they are diamond encrusted Franck Mullers so it being noticed is to be expected. Whereas in the case of a lot of £200k+ "super watches" they are much more understated and would more than likely go un-noticed to anyone who doesn't have a real interest in watches (and therefore hopefully any scum who would want to relieve you of it, which is always at the back of my mind wearing the Franck Mullers).

I would wear one,YES, otherwise what is the point.
Would I wear it everywhere, No, but if I had a veyron, there are places I would not drive that, as it would draw to much negative attension.
So if you are wearing something very shiney, in some area's, someone may want to take it off you.
So If I wanted to keep it, there are places it would not be worn.

I would wear one and probably in more places than I would take a fancy car,
lets face it what would be thief would recognise that amazing Greubel Forsey ?
I would rather wear that somewhere dodgy than a Rolex. and anyway it would be insured. Ok its a ltd edition but I dont see the point in safe queens be they cars or watches
or like my mates moutain bike which he wont use off road in case he falls and scracthes it or in the rain in case it gets in the bearings

Really, wow, I can never see the point in that, My bikes get used as they were designed for, thats the reason I have them.

My current daily work watch is an AP ROO Titanium. Everybody knows a Rolex but not many recognise an AP - thats what I like about them, good watch but understated and only appreciated by those who know.
Leon S compares them with his Ruf RT12 but I think I said that a couple of years before him on this forum; An AP is to Rolex as Ruf is to Porsche.
My gold watches never see much use and my wife has taken to wearing one of them, as their seems to be a fashion revival for black faced watches in gold with leather straps.
