Personally, i'd buy a car with it. Buy for £500, sell for £650. Repeat.

I'd stick to cars below £1000 though.

I did it for a few years. Maybe sold 500 cars in all. only lost money on 2. Harder times now though.

£500 isn't much! You'd have to stick to something you know well as that'd hardly pay for any training.

£200 for leaflets?

Why are all the suggestions manual labour ones? I know what I could do, service industry-wise, if the £500 was mine but they'd all be down to prior experience and training so for a novice, not possible. Any non-manual labour ideas?

A little bit more background - this is a university challenge. We will have £500 to start up a business and all profits in the first year go to charity. Being students, it would also have to be something that can be run part time or ad-hoc.

We have a couple of ideas, there are a couple that may be worth thinking about in here and any others would be great too.

I reckon it could be an exciting time playing the share market at the moment. Could create a huge multiple of your original investment if you're canny.

rofl Love it. May I quote that in future?

I did think trade Forex but like I suggested, you'd need experience/training which would come at a price so not something you can just do with £500 and expect to make anything. Mind you, you could... VEGAS TRADE. evil Go long tonight, £500 on EURUSD. Target profit £500, stop loss £500. Job done.

How much is an ice cream van?

Perhaps the wrong time of year depending on when the deadline is. Maybe drive it south through Europe on holiday. I did hear it costs about 2p for someone selling an ice cream to make it, if that's even close to the truth the markup should be pretty good, if you can find a good spot you'd do well.

Computer sales & repair business - Data recovery - Virus & Malware clearups etc. All on Campus, or with a collect and return service.
