Just how 'widespread' is the crunch? Really.
Discussion
The credit crunch has had a profound effect on many of those involved in construction, property, and is starting to effect those in financial services.
Retail is starting to feel the pinch - but how widespread is the effect at the moment elsewhere?
Public sector workers, nurses, teachers, etc - I can't see obvious effects on those unless they are trying to remortgage and have low LTV.
So, is the credit crunch just effecting a small % of the general population?

I know a lot of institutions such as banks etc are dramatically cutting projected spending targets on IT over the next couple of years. So IT staff coud well be stuffed. I work in IT btw.

In the engineering sector we are flat out busy with projects booked up for the next 2 years (as a consultancy).... We are currently turning away projects we dont fancy because we simply dont have the man power to do all the work thats on offer! But then a lot of the customers are foreign owned companies (India/China) who seem to have massive amounts of money to blow on new technologies.

To an extent the public sector are immune from recession, their pensions aren't stock market based etc, the government doesn't have to make profits etc.

Roads are quieter some of the time, trains are generally emptier, car parks at hotels with conference and training facilities are easier to park in. Lots of boarded up shops and more appearing.
