Discussion

Great entry price into this marque. Just check everything you would on a "normal" car. You might haggle him down a bit more.Anything to watch for with this model ? Its the same as the 2000/2001 model ?

Its the holden V8 which is old skool design from the 60's
Well it has some minor enhancements like Alloy heads. Low down torque is good, but its definately out of huff earlier I think redline is probably 5500.
But its not a bad price considering. COME Racing has some nice strokers for it and most body and other parts will be the same as the LS1 cars.
Actually you will want to check displacement, looks like the clubsports were only 5L not 5.7L

Description says its a 5.7 in which case it would be LS1. Best to check if it is, or not, or like Rich says it will be the Holden 5 litre.

Some of the "Purists" would argue that it would be a "proper" Holden though.
Yes VT series 1 is holden engine, vt series 2 is LS1
However Holden also did a 5.7 which was the 5L with a stroker crank so 5.7 doesnt always = LS1
Thats to catch people out who dont pay attention
Have a look down here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Special_Vehicl...
Now if the GTS for sale follows the same convention as the R8 in the VT2 being renamed for some stupid reason in the UK to GTS then thats not a 5.7L
However if its a genuine GTS then it will be the 220kw holden 5.7L engine.
Maybe the owner can confirm? The HSV plate should show its proper model if lucky.

Here's the Redbook link for this model. Engine code "stroker" so I guess it is the Holden not LS1.
1999HSV GTS
ETA that assumes that the 1999 as advertised really is the build date and not some random date the vendor has decided to use, like date of first registration or something equally irrelevant...

Not at all, you can't look up the spec of a car based on anything except it's build date.
Unless you live in the UK.
Give it up mate you don`t understand the registration system over here, even the dealers parts departments use reggy`s for parts identification.
We NEVER get asked `what year was your car built` over here.
That will be the date of first registration taken directly from the numberplate.
When a car is imported it is either declared new by the manufacturer, or it is not.
In the event the car is not, then it is allocated an age related plate, so for instance your theoretical 1970 Falcon would, at first registration here be given a `J` suffix plate which identifies it as a 1970 car from as far away as its possible to read the plate and it can never be updated to one of a newer issue.
If the car`s age cannot be determined it is issued with a `Q` plate and this makes the car practically worthless over here (dependant on model of course)
For example if an 05 reg and built VXR was worth £18K a Q reg model would be lucky to get £7000 if it sold.
We also refer to our speed in MPH and use HP which is DIFFERENT as well
But I can see how the confusion happened............
CUSTOMS OFFICE....somewhere in the UK
OFFICER.... Is this car newly manufactured?
IMPORTER....Oh yeah mate she`s right, fair dinkum.

You'll never convince me, you're trying to justify a system which only exists so that the Jones' can see that their neighbours have bought a new car

To buy genuine parts here you actually need the VIN, which is the only thing that truly identifies the vehicle. Just saying it's an '04 VZ for example, wouldn't be enough because quite often specs change during the year or model.
I would bet that there are cars in England with 05 reg, some of which will be '04 V2s and some 04 or 05 VZs. Now tell me all they need is the 05 reg to find the right parts?
of course they could use the reg to access the VIN but that's not what you said...

Don`t have to justify the system mate, it is what it is.
But if you keep banging on about something you obviously have absolutely no idea about then it kinda say`s `small town boy`
The worlds a big place and things don`t always get done the same way.

We dont need to convince you - its how it is
The Reg is tied to the VIN. Ring up a motor factors and they ask you for a reg. Not a VIN.
The idea of moving regs about every year is equally alien to us.

Not sure what you mean by the last line? Our reg no's are simply consecutive.
