Diagnostic software - old or new

Can anybody tell me if I need the old version or newer version of the diagnostic software.

My car is a 98 4.5 so is obviously an early car but is the later software better/improved and therefore the one to go for?

mine is a 98 4.5 also. you can use both for diagnostics (they are the same). the new version has some additional functions but i didnt touch those
