Nothing. Flammable is the shortened version of inflammable and is in more common use due to confusion surrounding the two terms (i.e. some people thought that inflammable meant 'unable' to catch fire)

yes

Inflammable was originally English, flammable American. We have now adopted the American.

I thought one needed an open flame/ignition source, and the other could spontaneously combust at a certain temp?

1,000,000,000,000 is a billion; isn't it?

I alway thought that:

Flammable = you had to put a flame to the material/whatever to make it catch fire.

Inflammable = any flame nearby would cause a fire.

Inflammable means the same as flammable, 'liable to catch fire', 'easily ignited' etc. Because it is often taken to mean the opposite, it is best to avoid using it at all; in official use flammable and non-flammable are the preferred terms.

ha ha, reminds me of the time when I had to educate my junior school teacher in this very topic. She wouldn't believe me until she looked it up in a dictionary!
