Is it a fairly straightforward task to fit a TD5 dash into a 91 'J' reg 90 so I can fit the stereo and surround in as well?

I think it's pretty tricky actually, but these guys do a look-a-like which may do the job.

You can do it but its quite a big job. You will need the rear grey plastic panel (the one at an angle that butts up against the bulkhead face) as well as the central panel that holds the radio and switches and so on.

The central panel is only about 15 pounds from LR.

The rear panel you need is the one that suits it (post 02) but I dont know how much that is.

You also need the side panels too, and switch blanks (or switches) for the holes.

Hi,

I put one of these in my 1988 V8 County:

I think the one from mud stuff is a copy of this one.

I got mine in the UK from Scorpion Racing here:

IMHO its a stronger and better made product than the one from Mud Stuff.

I too looked at fitting a TD5 dash, but its just too expensive for what you get.

Nige.

I saw the two lots of complete TD5 dash assy at Newbury, too. I was sniffing round them while the stall holder was extolling their virtues to another prospectiver punter.
He was commenting on how easy it was to do them, plug + play etc and how his fitters could instal them in a couple of afternoons.

Something just didn't look right in my mind's eye about the dash assemblies, though. I couldn't place the individual items into a Defender and get the various panels to line up. Upon turning them over, I realised why and walked away from the stall. Embossed into the plastic's moulding was the legend LHD.

I fitted a Mud dash and am very happy with it. Holds my radio, CB, 4 auxillary guages, 2 12v sockets, a gang of switches and my mobile phone holder. It was easy to fit and once in place is very robust. The plastic is a couple of mm thick so holds the radio very solidly
