89 in a 60 - The Outcome
Discussion
In June I was scamera'd on the B4100 near Gaydon on my Hayabusa. I waited for the NIP to arrive, and read all the "don't sign" threads and looked at numerous ways to avoid the inevitable.
However, I decided that I'd just roll over and accept that I'd been caught and signed the paperwork and sent it off. I received a summons in the post some 8 weeks later and the court date was yesterday.
I chose not to attend, as I'm sure I'd have lost my rag and ranted about the dodgy positioning of the scamera van and the pure revenue generation that this government is after.
Anyway.......... I got 5 points and £250 fine with £35 costs. I'm not chuffed to have points, but equally I'm sure it could've been worse.
When I consider how often I ride quickly or drive quickly, the law of averages dictates that I'll get caught sooner or later. I consider this one of my basic rights, but recognise that it's actually illegal, no matter how advanced my skill level is.
My real beef is that had I been followed by trafpol, I'm 99% sure that they would've stopped me and it might have led to 3 points and £60. That would've been the end of it. They have the ability to discriminate, whereas a camera does not. It would've saved the "system" time, money and effort if I'd been stopped on the day, rather than having months of to-ing and fro-ing with paperwork etc.
Anyway, I'm off to buy a Road Angel for my Beemer and a false plate for the Busa!

Bad luck but I guess it would otherwise depend on the BIB that followed you. Most of the time I drive its a little illegal like most people but I like the occasional roll on in third on an open stretch. If a camera caught me at exactly the right time I could regularly be done for 30 over the limit!
I like to think if I was unobservant enough to have a BIB see me do a short stretch of blat and then slow down to the limit he'd appreciate the difference.

This is more or less what happened to me (although the BiB was 'stealthily' parked) he sent me to court to get 'a period of disqualification' although I 'only' got 6pts and £300 tax due to 'sympathetic Mags' - had it been a camera I might have stood a chance by not signing etc.
Under the circumstances I would have thought that a little discretion might have been appropriate - not all Trafpols are as decent as our 'residents'

Fortunate also, that the camera cannot negotiate with burning petrol...
