Monaro Justification
Discussion
Who else has done this:
Hit 40!, Very good mate just died at only 44 and started to remember your not here for long. As such I'm wondering about running the Ro as a daily driver? Currently run an old Vectra SRI as well and taking everything into account it would cost me another £1000 - £1200/yr to just run the RO on a daily basis and bin the Vectra. As well as this I have accounted for walking to the gym (1 mile each way a night - yes Im lazy!) and not taking the missis into Tesco's car park during the day when door bashers are about.
I also realise that this will mean putting about 20k/yr onto the Ro which will impact its re-sale value one day in the furture as only currently do about 5k/yr in it. I will also have to accept that the front end will need a respray every yr to 18mths due to stone chips although I have that plastic film on alot of it currently.
What would you do being sensible...? I would like to enjoy the car daily but is it justified taking into account the change in use....

Enjoy it
I've lost mates too (almost lost me too - Mrs MJ has banned me from bare-foot skiing attempts for ever!!!).
If you're thinking about it, then sell the smaller car to fund the extra fuel, resprays etc - the car is for driving; not being parked up. I know a quite a few people who have 'weekend cars' that seem to be forever in the garage and rarely being driven.
I'm thinking the same about a VXR8 - I'm confident the prices are going to fall even more soon. I toyed about getting a VXR8 as wellas a small runabout - the total cost would be way more than running just one VXR8. The4 only advantage of a small runabout is parking as far as I can see.

When has "owning a Ro" ever been sensible? It's a heavy, V8 rumbling, gas guzzling sexy son a a biatch! C'mon man, snap out of it. I bet you were the sort of kid that never took his toys out of the box
If you married Angelina Jolie, would you only make love to her on weekends because you didn't wanna spend money on savlon to treat carpet burns? Spend weekdays taking Vanessa Feltz out instead cos you don't mind getting her damaged?
I drive mine every day, and even if I had the extra cash to run a runaround, I would probably just spend it on the ro. You know why? cos I love driving it that's why. When I drive another car, I can't wait to get back into mine.
I'm sorry about you losing your friend. I've been through a similar experience and it does teach you that life is short and you should spend it doing things you enjoy. I've owned mine since Feb this year and even now I still get jibes from friends about tax/petrol, but I don't care. I never complain about filling her up because as long as I can afford to keep her and keep filling her up, I will drive the beast every day with a big fat smile on my face.
You can also guess what I'd be doing with Angelia. I'd be driving my Ro to boots to get some more Savlon
I'll flash you if I see you out in the Vectra
i have for the last 5-6 years always had 2 cars at least one for the week and a weekend / racer.
with the money i wasted i could own 3 Monaros by now. As soon as i got my first monaro about 18 months ago i sold every car i had as i saw no point in driving them.
I use mine daily sod the fuel as others have said as long as i can afford to fill it ill use it

I put lpg in mine, it now does 20mpg @55p/litre, and I'll run it until the government outlaws them.
Mines SC Gareth and heavily at that 122 @12psi so even if you could it would be expensive, a pain to set up and dodgy on WOT.darren_r1 said:

Cleaned it and kept it ready and waiting in the garage. If you still want a bit of speed for getting to work by another old sport Vauxhall. I just got my Hands on a Astra MK2 GTE. Fantastic fun, dont mind who bumps it plus cheap parts etc.... Never get rid of the Ro ! Its an Icon
Nothing to justify.
If the question was "Why can I justify buying AND DRIVING a second car that I don't really enjoy" I think you'd know your answer.
Mines a daily driver and is racking up upto 1000 miles a week.
Drive it, enjoy it and repair it.
Only when it becomes totally uneconomical to keep it on the road will I get rid.
Or when the coupe 60 has been built....Bring on the "they never listen, we've already told em it's definitely NOT HAPPENING" brigade!

Nice ZX12r BTW!

Bikes really dont excite me to be honest.
I can appreciate the sight of one and like the noise of my neighbours Ducati Monster but they dont make me hard
Sorry mate, it wasn't for your benefit. Roger does ride a bike so for him it's an option. I ride a bike to work 9 months of the year, I don't get stuck in traffic and it does 38mpg...faster than the car too. Makes perfect sense if they do "make you hard".

I use my Ro as my everyday car, and absolutely love it! I had a Skoda Fabia vRS (great car by the way!) before this which i had for 3 1/2 years and it did 50+ mpg, the Monaro does 18 mpg on a day to day basis. But i never went out and polished the Skoda on a weekly basis (just took it through the carwash), or went for long drives in it just for the hell of it. I do with the Ro, and will keep it as long as i can afford to run it, it's so great on the eye too!
