Infiniti G37 Convertible
New kids Infiniti already announce a new model
Infiniti may have only just arrived in Europe but the Japanese carmaker has already announced a new model. The G37 convertible will go on sale from summer 2009 and it features a three-piece automatic retracting hardtop.
It will be powered by the same 320bhp 3.7-litre V6 engine, featuring Infiniti’s Variable Valve Event and Lift technology, and there will be a choice of standard six-speed manual transmission or optional seven-speed automatic with paddle shift.
More pictures and details of the G37 Convertible will be issued at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November during the car’s global debut.

Any ideas what sort of price?
No idea what that might be ? but as a guide to some prices, I've just returned from the US and was in a GM dealer in North Carolina
and was offered to try the new Pontiac G8 GT, it was utterly wonderful to drive, what a car complete with Corvette C6 engine too !
Guess how much brand new ?
£14,850 on the road, and the salesman told me he could Knock off another $1200 that's about £560.
Unbelievable !!!!
Just shows how much we get ripped off in this country !!!

God that's sickening isn't it? I just wish that Ford would do RHD Mustangs, and sell them over here for the US prices hehe and was offered to try the new Pontiac G8 GT, it was utterly wonderful to drive, what a car complete with Corvette C6 engine too !

I know they wouldn't and probably couldn't (Gordon's fault no doubt...) make them the same price though. Perhaps if they made RHD drive ones in America, and then we pay the American price plus import costs (either DIYing or using an importer). An importer would be able to import a stack, and then put the full sticker price on the window, and I bet even with the fees and their cut, it'd still be cracking value...timewatch said:

I could not believe the price myself, it's shockingly low for a car that had the performance/handling and gadgets of a BMW M tech 3/5 series the only thing that let the appearance down was a cheap silver plastic trim on the dash, if it had been aluminum then it would have been sorted !!!
They were selling a new Hyundai Sonatta type thing cant remember the name ? it was more expensive than the G8.
Yes we do get ripped off something awful here, just think if you could buy such a car at that price you would not mind the fuel as you would have saved a fortune on the car in the first place.

One of the ways you get ripped off is in taxes. Keep in mind that here in the US, the price you were quoted did not include sales tax, which varies from state to state. In Florida, for example, it's 6%, which is far lower than your VAT, but it's a ripoff compared to Arizona's sales tax, which is zero.
When Autocar sent one of their guys to New York to buy a new Mustang a year or two ago, they had it shipped to England where it was modified slightly to conform to British laws. After paying for all of that and UK taxes, I was surprised at how little they saved over buying it from an official dealer in England. It was only £2000-£3000.
Still, the G8 is a great buy even to Americans earning dollars. It doesn't really have a Corvette engine since it's in a lower state of tune in the US, but six liters and 361 hp in a comfortable and fun car for just under $30,000 is quite good.

But this is the way i look at it, not an exact comparison in any way, if i earn £1 i buy a coffee, someone earning $1 in the states also buys a coffee.
My limited understanding of exchange rates and money values is depending on if your mainly importing or exporting then you want a weaker or stronger currency, which i believe is why the dollar is kept low.
Though i bet a car of that spec made in this country would cost far more than £25k after profits and taxes!
Bit of a stretch to call it a "new" manufacturer when its a Nissan..the 350z and G35 coupe are near identical cars but for back seats..the skyline range in Japan are badged Infinity in the states. Same with the Lexus IS200 was a big hit over here and was badged a toyota alteeza in japan...but in fairness to the new infinty range it doesn't have a lot in common with other nissans.
