Wonderful...! I'll have to set this to record.
For me, the Bathurst 1000 ties the top spot for World's best touring car race with the Spa 24h.
Not the same since it went Ford vs GM V8 Supercars though. Bring back the Skylines, M635CSi's, E30 M3's, RS500's, Corollas, VK/VL Commodores, Alfa 75's etc (or equivalent in today's cars).

my brother living in australia does pose some advantages as coming to visit him means i'll be heading to my second bathurst 1000...
last went in 2005 and watched skaife take his fifth win on the mountain, will be cheering for holden again this year. my bro has even bought a holden kingswood so we can cruise the 60km from where he lives to the mount panorama circuit in style!!!
it's 4:30 on the thursday afternoon here and the practise sessions have started, haven't been to see it yet (the kingswood needed fixing today!) but i'll be there tomorrow. very odd atmosphere around the place, EVERYONE is talking about the event from 18 year olds in their rice rockets or old commodores to old men and women who go every year.
bearing in mind i live about 30 miles from silverstone, 5 miles from santa pod and 2 miles from bedford autodrome right in the hub of "motorsport valley" i feel like an outcast for talking openly about my favourite sport, but here, it is a way of life.
alot of people have got their toranas, falcons and chargers out of the garage after the winter and started to drive them about, it is muscle car heaven!
don't think i can get upload any pics whilst here but will do some when back in the uk!

Should be good. Do we think Murphy's lap record will be broken this year? It would be good to see it broken on merit ie before they go to a slightly ethanol blended fuel. Interestingly a DTM car would do a 1.59 around the mountain so about seven seconds faster than a V8! Very impressive on a for a car more than a 100hp down on such a fast track.

Channel 5 normally run highlights of the V8 Supercar rounds, usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, so I'll be keeping an eager eye out for those (only got 'peasant' TV in our house too).Realised I'd still got last year's race on my recorder's hard drive the other evening, so naturally I watched it again! Brilliant stuff!
It'll be interesting to see how 'our' two BTCC drivers get on this weekend (Matt Neal and Fabrizio Giovanardi) in stonking great rwd beasties too.
giovanardi is sharing with mark hynes in the 88 "888 Racing" Falcon, interestingy, ford are dropping 888 for next year so they'll be reduced to running as a privateer so there is talk that they may switch to running holdens to bring their australian racing in line with their BTCC campaign
there is also alot of talk about breaking murphys lap record, but there are 'fors' and 'against', apparantly the qualifying was run in the cooler evening on a newly resurfaced track, although now they are running sequential gear boxes. mark winterbottom nearly beat it last year so it probably will fall...

I really used to look forward to this when it was shown on BBC Grandstand in the 80's and 90's.
I'd go down the offy and buy a few cans of Fosters to try and get into the Aussie spirit before watching the likes of Peter Brock battle it out.
Can't get satellite where we live at the moment so I haven't seen the race for a while now. If it is shown anywhere on terrestrial then please post it here and I'll go and buy a tinny to celebrate!

just come back from the friday there, missed this mornings sessions so missed the big crash but luckily both drivers seem to be ok, though the PWR car wont continue, the team kiwi falcon is at the local college being bashed back into shape so they can rebuild it to try and take the start...
lap record not broken yet, though they got down to a 2:06.9 in practise, just 0.1 second off murphy's time...
qualifying was good, though giovanardi tagged the wall breaking the watts linkage in the 88 car bringing out the red flag, winterbottom is again on pole and the top 14 are all doing 2:07s laps so if it stays dry (had a couple of drops of rain today) i reckon the lap record will be broken.
annoyingly matt neal looks like he is in last place but he finished second in the mini JCW support race, that was quite cool, also saw the porsche carrera support race which had alot of young guns charging around... left before the ute's raced though.
one final piece, got stopped by highway patrol on the way there for doing 123kph in a 100 zone, my bro was adament he wasn't speeding or if it was over 100 it was only just, but got home and i drove his other car and he followed me and yep, would appear the kingswood under reads!
will see if i can get some pics posted by my bro.
