Absolutely gobsmacked when I read the numbers on Sunday morning.
Let's not forget Jim Halsey either; 5.95 @ 240 from a nitrous car is haulin' too!
so was i... incredible performance. Not sure if he was pro mod legal weight as it was an outlaw race.Still mindblowing...Let's not forget Jim Halsey either; 5.95 @ 240 from a nitrous car is haulin' too!
and how about 7.18 from a radial tyred car,and 204mph!!!!
Great Video and stunning performance!
Before this thread becomes the latest victim of irrelevant and inane comments, just so I can get some sort of perspective on running 5.7’s @ 250 actually means, could someone please explain to me what the difference is between (say) FIA Pro Mod and Outlaw Pro Mod? - Is it motor size, blower capacity, fuel type, a combination of all 3, or what?
Cheers

As far as I know, basically outlaws run very similar motors to Top Methanol, IE PSI screw blower (60+ psi boost) at probably 90-120% overdrive.

They all run methanol, FIA pro mods can only run Roots type blowers, all run Hi helix blowers though, which means the rotors have a 120 degree helix (twist) rather than the standard 60 degrees, and they can only turn them at 20% overdrive I think.
The other factor is weight, not sure what the outlaws run weight wise.

Cannon used the forbidden screwtype blower on the Superbird and some other fast cars used nitrous as well on top of the blower. Nevertheless they produced some awesome numbersSee Filkins purge the nitrous on his blower car

I'm pretty sure all the weight will have been removed from the Superbird but I still don't think it would have been particularly light weight. I'd be surprised if it tipped the scales at less than 2500lbs.
As for spec, bar the blower it won't have been that far removed from a current IHRA/FIA/NHRA Pro Modified car. Obviously the screw blower makes a big difference (the outlaw PM guys use the "C" rotor which makes 10-12psi more boost than the "D" that alky cars run), but other than that the engine will be the same 526ci Hemi fitted to 95% of blown Pro Mods. The clutch may be a triple disc item rather than a two disc, and the rear gear may have been adjusted too(to top 250mph needs a tall ratio), but apart from those bits and the weight thing, I wouldn't have thought there'd have been too many disimilarities really. Just a representation of what Pro Mods are really capable of if the rule makers "turned 'em loose"!
