Hi

Tried to start the cerbie yesterday, and the starter reduction gear is naff! Starter is less than ten months old. Rang TVR Car parts and they are sending out a replacment under warrantee! (Good service)
This got me wondering ref the heat problem's. I know that's not the trouble this time.
Has any one tried the starter heat shield/bag from Demon Tweeks and if they have have they an opinion on it? As I am going to be changing the starter this coming weekend and it makes sense to fit one if they work!

Regards
Andy.

I cooked mine in about 8 months. After refurbing again, I made a separate little jackets for the body and the solanoid out of heat shield matting (still using the 50cmx50cm piece I bought off eBay for £10). Everything seems OK, but it's only 4 months since the change.

If I'd had a thin piece of aluminium lying around the garage, it probably would have been a good idea to make up a little plate that sat away from the starter body to give a bit more protection for the heat radiated from the manifold.

Why not try reducing the under bonnet temperature and all the associated problems of which this is one by fitting the Trackcar Solutions cooling fan chip in the ECU.

I did mine about 5 months ago and it has transformed the car. Even the interior is cooler (but this could be down to the cr*p weather) and I hardly ever need the aircon even with window up.

You don't tend to get the heat haze when standing in traffic and the needle sits between 80 and 90 deg all the time now.
