Been a while since I replaced the headlight bulbs on our '99 Mk2. Thought I'd check before ordering H4s from Consumabulbs and their car-search says H4 for dipped and H3 for main. Does this sound right?

Also, anyone using any of the new extreme 90% more versions from Osram, Phillips etc? Put something similar in last time but there seem to be more on the market at the moment.

TIA.

Hi,

The Mk2 takes only H4 bulbs as this is both main and dipbeam in one bulb. The sidelights are 501 (also known as 5W5 capless bulbs). I've recently upgraded my wifes Mk2 to one of our HID kits - much improved light output and easy installation. If you require more info please give me a shout (0845 4744382)

Regards,

Dan

Thanks Dan - I thought they were on H4s.

What is the cost of the HID units? Might be interested as planning a few more bits of work over the next few months. And are there any legality issues? Heard some unconfirmed rumours that there can be a problem come MOT, with upgrades.

Cheers

I'm using Ring H4 +90% bulbs in my Focus. They seem pretty good but don't last as long as standard bulbs. I had Osram before but they failed quicker than the current Rings. Osram/phillips are supposed to be the best though so I was probably unlucky/have a crap car.

Hi Lee,

I've sent you an e-mail with further information regarding the HID kits and legality issues.
