I joined my uni gym yesterday signing something along the lines of "'I agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the gym and the terms and conditions of membership attached, in particular, I cannot cancel my membership until I have fulfilled the whole contract period.' To this end, membership refunds will not be issued under any circumstances".

I've now a bit unsure about my decision due to my work load and the contract is for a full 12 months, I therefore want to know whether that contract is all I have or whether there is something that would allow me to get out of it if I so choose - i.e. A cooling off period?

Any help much appreciated, thanks, Arry.

Have you got a copy of the contract you signed? It will say if there is a cooling off period.

It is customary to have a cooling off period with distance selling, but not sure if it applies to other contracts unless it specifically says so in the contract. Did you use the gym when you signed up? as it may be more difficult to cancel once you have actually started to use the service.

I think they'd have to be pretty an4l to not let you cancel it after one day. Just make up a feeble excuse - you've just been diagnosed with a heart condition or something.

I'd say probably think harder before you sign something!!

It's quite clear, and in simple language. You can't cancel.

I know and I will, however I thought most contracts had 'cooling off' periods and therefore signing and seeing how I get on for a few days seems like a reasonable thing to do - if I like it, I stay, if I don't then I can get out (minus admin fee or whatever). I'm not trying to get out 2 months into a 12 month contract, I'm 2 days in....

As V8Mate said, tell them you've a dodgy ticker. Not good for business having the clientele keel over on the running machine wink

Coolind off periods are for distance selling - like by phone etc to stop daft old ladies signing up for stuff they don't need.

You could try the digy ticker argument, but beware karma. I once had a client who didged court by saying he had a heart problem which had just been discovered. He dropped dead of a heart attack two days later.

You signed it, you're stuck with it!
