Have just had the clutch replaced on my '98 500.
At the same time we noticed that the gear linkage bushes were pretty chewed up (small plastic sleeves, probably worth about £2) so they were renewed.
The shift action had always been pretty stiff but i put this down to the more hardcore characteristics of the 500 Tivs (although i had started to notice- on track days- that i was loosing too much speed between gear changes because of the slow change).

What an improvement ,the gear change now has that "snick-snick" feel (much like the old ford 2000E gearchange from years ago).

Its now easier too keep within the power band of the engine and im sure it'll be quicker at the next track day.

Just thought id post this in cased any Chim/Griff drivers are experincing gearchange difficulties.

Whitechimp500,
My gear change is stiff but gets more so after sitting in traffic, presumably when the thing is heating up somewhat. It can then be quite difficult to knock the thing out of gear and into the next one...usually 2nd to 3rd. Is this similar to your problem ?

Yes, gearchange did get stiffer as things warmed up,maybe its the same fault.
My car has done 34k miles, if your mileage is similar ,these plastic linkage bushes may be in the same condition ?
