So whats the word on class C, V8 are out. So class "C" is down to V6 and V4 cars for we hope a greater grid. As far as we are involved in TVR racing we Know we are the fastest in "C" at the moment but when the rules were made in 2007 for class "C" we stuck to these rules with power to weight. We now find that Mickey has to move up to class "B" or look for another series. this makes Mickey's car possibly a sale item?. JohnG Star....

John,
Looking at the car and driver weights, there must be a lot of ballast that would come out of Mickey's car - would it not be competitive in class B with a little more engine work, a move up from 4 litres and ballast removed?

Yes, Its a must to get rid of the ballast and plenty of engine work to do.

Old news.

I think this was talked about 2-3 months ago.

I spent a whole year and a lot of money to build a car to fit the rules, that's now going to be semi pointless, as can't afford to spend any more on the car.

If they want to open the competition up a bit in class C, I think it should be a classic class and include the 2.0 turbo's they would be allowed a higher BHP limit than the V8's to counter the Torque advantage.

You would have to have a classic chassis, plus other rules to even things out.

Leigh,
The class rules are supposed to be simple so they can be policed. I know you would want to tweek the class rules but...
What is a classic chassis?
Why would a 2.0 turbo be allowed to run in a classic class?
Would a 2.0 turbo with a correct 1.7 factor applied not become a 3.4 and would that not open the class for Cosworth GA V6s?? Class is limited to 3.0 with maintainace overbore

What would you suggest a 2.0 turbo should be allowed in terms of power so that it can run with the V8s, and didn't you forget that this higher power limit would only make the V6s and any N/A 4s even more uncompetitive in class??

Only one V8 has been out in the class and it dominated C this year, it was built very cleverly - heavy car with big power and young Mickey seems to be able to drive it quite well too. wink

In all walks of motorsport, vehicles that show an advantage have penalties imposed eventualy to level the playing field - just ask Ducati. smile

It's sad that so much time, effort and cost went into your car, but a healthy V8 Tasmin with some weight lost should always be competitive in class B, and leave Class C as a real entry level class. If you dont belive me, ask some of the class B drivers that struggled to keep with Mickey this year when he was running heavy.

Its not a straight forward arguement, and my one-sided arguement is from someone who has also spent a lot of money on a car. My car is what I want to race, something I like, something with history, and something I can pretty much spanner myself and as it happens, because its huge fun.

Class B Class C, you'll be racing with somone just get out and enjoy it. smile

I don't understand why you are all discussing this on here with a meeting organised to discuss it face to face in 3 days time. It smacks of airing dirty laundry in public.

Have the meeting, discuss the issues, get agreement with John R and get on with it. Or don't, if changes to the regs aren't to your liking

As an aside, if Mickey wants to make a career in racing then isn't it time for a move from Class C anyway?

Only wanted to point out another option so people could think about it before the meeting.

As you have pointed out this is the main reason for the having the drivers meeting.

Sorry Leigh - I'm not having a go at you. All points of view are valid, its just the debate will go round and round and never looks very pretty to outsiders.

Are you racing at Oulton and attending the meeting?

It's ok I have been biting my tongue as much as possible.

Not had time to get the car where I want it, and can't afford to take the time off to get it ready in time. so will not be able to race. as you have pointed out just not worth it unless your 100% happy with the car, both me and the car need more experience, and testing.

I will be watching and be at the meeting, also staying for the meal, and the go karting.

The rules were always going to get changed at some point, and if it wasn't you building a car straddling two seasons Leigh it would be someone else a few years later. It's basically a symptom of having multiple car typs in multiple classes and i don't think there will be a way around it. Someone is always going to be fastest in the class, sometimes that person dominates a whole season. Sometimes car builds take too long and end up being out of class the following year .. mean look at me .. 5 years in TVR racing and a year late with every car I've ever built hehe

1st tasmin year : learning year
2nd tasmin year : development year
3rd tasmin year : another development year then choose another car hehe
1st T350 year : fkup engine year with autocraft
2nd t350 year : another development year (spotting a pattern yet?)

but next year .. oh god yes next year that is our year (well you've got to think positive!!) hehe

I think a thanks is in order though for everyone whos managed to get cars out on the grid thumbup

Any one want to buy some lead ballast? LOL, Cost me over £250 to weigh this car down LOL... I think its even got lead in the petrol?. Double LOL. John G Star. Feel sorry for Leigh, a lad trying hard to make ends meet in this racing world, saying that he dose understand that he needs to do plenty of track day's and get his car sorted before he comes out again. 110% for your effort.... See you Sat night.

No-one's offended. It has been debated on here many times without any conclusion and no doubt will be again.

The timing of this one just seemed particularly odd given the meeting on Saturday specifically set up to discuss it.
