What surprises me is that Ralf was getting £12M in the first place....even £6M seems a lot for his services.

And not surprising that Monty is a bit miffed about it.

No....that was understandable because Pollock as manager gets a percentage and he sorted JV's contract.

Michaels is understandable....because he's an outstanding driver.

Ralfs....4 times more than Montys isn't.

Do you know of JV still has a percentage of BAR? As I'm sure he only joined to drive with them because he was a part owner (even if it was only 0.000000001%).

Anyway silly season has started, the news is - there are whispers that M Schumacher could be under family pressure to retire after Suzuka if he wins a record sixth title. Giancarlo Fisichella, under contact to the Ferrari-supplied Sauber team, can only hope. A transfer would presumably be simple to arrange…

Ferrari would inevitably be interested in Fernando Alonso too, although Flavio Briatore might have trouble convincing Renault that it was a smart move to sell the Spaniard. If it did happen, Briatore probably has an option to retrieve another of his drivers, Mark Webber, from Jaguar, but could even sign Jacques Villeneuve for relatively little money…

Talk of Juan Pablo Montoya moving to McLaren for 2004 instead of 2005 rumbles on. This would entail McLaren having to pay off David Coulthard's 2004 contract, and also having to pay Williams for the final year of Montoya's existing deal.

Rumours are that the Montoya/Williams relationship has not been as strong since a post French GP difference of opinion. What on the surface looks like a no-brainer for Montoya could actually make sense; next year's McLaren should be strong and his retainer would go northwards. And if he's planning to go there for 2005 anyway, why wait? Logic says that any negotiation would be affected by whether Montoya wins the title, so it's likely to run for a while yet.

Conventional wisdom says Williams would target the impressive Webber as a replacement. Nothing to do with the Aussie reminding Frank Williams and Patrick Head of the much admired Alan Jones either…

Webber would obviously be up for the move, and Jaguar would receive a much-needed cash injection that Frank could fund with his Montoya pay-off. Jaguar then signs Coulthard as its number one, who doesn't cost much as he already has his McLaren pay in his pocket.

Have asked that question on my F1 forum....if I don't get an answer later on....I'll do a search for it on the site. Too late now (YHM btw )

Got a couple of good replies

One provided reference to an interesting (though dated March 2002) article on who owns what in F1.

From this it states that Mount Eagle Inc. owns 35% of BAR, and JV is thought to own a piece of Mount Eagle Inc.

The other said:-
"I've read that BAR owes BAT such a debt that effectively BAT is the sole owner of the team. The story goes that the BAT loans to BAR were made against shares of the team, so the instant the debt is called in it will dilute all other ownership except that of BAT. For all practical purposes entirely marginalizing all other ownership shares, including any that may be held by Villeneuve or Pollock. "

Must admit I thought he had more financial interest in it...but apparently it's worthless.

Now to reply to this little lot
Michael Schumacher has once again insisted that he will not retire from Formula One racing at the end of this season even if he secures his sixth world championship title. He has a contract to stay with Ferrari until the end of 2006.
In preparation for this weekend's United States Grand Prix he insisted: "I am not thinking at all about retiring. I think it will be time for me to go when someone will beat me in a very clear and undisputed way.
"It will happen one day, I'm sure. And on that day, Ross Brawn, Jean Todt and to a lesser extent myself will have to say that it's over and we need to choose the people to continue the adventure.
"With four constructors' and three drivers' championship titles, we launched an incredible era for Ferrari and our goal now is to make it last as long as possible."


Colombian Formula One title challenger Juan Pablo Montoya will stay at Williams next year, technical director Patrick Head said on Saturday.
"We have a contract with Juan until the end of the 2004 season," he said at the US Grand Prix. "And there are no circumstances in which that will not be fulfilled."

McLaren have confirmed Coulthard for 2004 while Webber has a deal at Jaguar for two more seasons.

Regarding the rumours of the DC,JPM and MW swop
"I don't know where it's come from," said Webber of the speculation on Saturday. "I think they're just firing up the managers, keeping an eye on their salaries."

My thoughts on Schumacker (M) until the last 2 races were - he has realised he is mortal, probably about the time his mother died, and he will not take the same risks anymore. The last 2 races - home race, maybe a word or 2 from Luca, last race, lucky?, inspired tyre choices? - we'll see!
