Maybe I'm the one being slow, but £50billion pounds is roughly $90billion dollars, so the yanks are paying more at 900billion dollars?

you're being slow!!

No, just kidding. Our 'bailout' is much bigger. £200billion into liquidity , another £250 billion on hookers and £50 billion (the headlin figure) buying shares into the banks I htink.

Total £500 billion

Yes.

If they were spending 50 imperial billion pounds, that would be 90,000bn dollars.

Are you sure about that?

£50bn = $90bn if all things are now equal.

Que?

He said 90 thousand billion dollars = 50 billion pounds. If our billions are now the same then that can not be right?

hehe An imperial billion is a million-million, a US billion (which we now use) is a thousand-million.

I still think rather then our tax going into the banks to protect our money, why dont they cut out the middle man and give us the tax direct? That amound in our hands will help the economy- spend in shops, money off mortgage, rainy day savings etc

£50bn to 60 million people is a lot of money indeed...

Until recently, we used a million-million and the US used a thousand-million. In the last couple of decades, we've standardised on a thousand-million. Some older people still use it to mean a million-million though.

Thought a financial Billion had been 1000 million for a hell of a long time.

Scientific one is still a million million

Scientists don't have one, they say "ten to the nine" or "ten to the twelve".

It's the more relevant "layman's billion" that has changed.
