123/ Distributor or other electronic ignition.

My Magnetronic ignition failed as I left scrutineering on Sat. Luckily, a fellow competitor lent a replacement switch unit. Before I invest in a replacement and spare (approx. £120) can anybody give info. on their experience of either the 123 Distributor or other electronic ignition systems. Engine is Swiftune full race spec. Many thanks in anticipation of a useful discussion.

If its a race engine, wouldn't a mapable electronic system be more suitable? Class rules depending of course?
