im currently working in wells, somerset, away from home.
my mrs has told me i need to get a good meal down me each night.
what i could really do with is a carvery type place , so i dont have to wait all night for it to be served.
upon looking ive not been able to find anywhere.
any recommendations.
it will need to serve until at least 8 o`clock.

Cheers.

Neither Toby Carvery or Brewers Fayre have anything close by.

That was my first thought.

Try this place, not eaten there for a few years but used to be very good. Not as expensive as it looks- also used in the filming of 'Hot Fuzz'.

Or just outside wells, more of a pub but does very good food.

There's a good pub on the Glastonbury road, called the Sherston. Apparently the food is quite good these days.

Other than this place, and one a bit further out towards Coxley, i can't think of anywhere else.

That place is sparse for good food.

Only other options are Tuckers fish and chips (which are pretty good TBH) or there's a pizza takeaway place that does proper italian pizzas. I think it's calld Silvio's.

Come out of Wells and head for Weston after approx 3 miles there's a place on the left i forget the name but it's really nice.
As a point of reference the car parks on the left hand side of the pub, give it a try.

Also have you tried the pasties from the shop by the fountain in the city centre they are awsomelick

My relatives have a pub close to there.
Turn right at the Sherston follow the road to the T junction and turn left it's approx half a mile down on the right.

It's called the Ring o Bells and it's a proper country pub. They even have a skittle alley thumbup

My grandad is a keen skittler in that area (and he used to run the Sherston!), i'm sure he's mentioned the Ring before.

Right at the sherston from which direction?

I go twice a year to visit the relatives. TBH i would move there in a flash as everyone is soooo friendly but the house prices OMGyikes

TBH there are plenty of pubs to try for food and most are really good.

Have you been to Cheeder Gorge yet ??

the problem i find with wells is that its geared to tourists.
so most places are overpriced and the service and food are crap.(and they are the ones the hotels are inclined to recommend)
most places i work ahve the chain carverys nearby, whch offer a quick cheap and relatively healthy meal.
ill try the ones that have been recommended by you lot though.

I grew up in Wells untill i was 11. All my family still live there so i get back around twice a year too.

I'd never move back, too much of a small-town mentality. Everyone knows everyone elses' business and no one ever moves on. Scares me a bit!

Took my missus for a drive up Cheeder last time i was down, nice little drive.

Why do you want to eat in a well? You know they're full of water usually? And there's the practicality of getting down there.
