People Just Dont Get Lotus !
Discussion
Speaking to this guy the other day & he asks me to show him my S1 Elise.
I open the door & instantly he asks me why it hasnt got central locking & that it must be cr** because it didnt have it. I ignored his comment & continued to show him the car. He then notices that it hasnt got electric windows & i tried to explain the reasons behind Lotus keeping the weight down to a minimum etc, to which he tells me that they are cr** cars because they dont have central locking or electric windows & how he blew away one in his mondeo from the lights! At that point i swicthed off, told him to f-off & drove off...... People just dont get the the whole point to Lotus.

thats why Lotus put central locking on the newer ones....and leccy windows...oh and aircon ..oh and traction control ...and sat nav...etc..etc so that they could appeal more to knobs like that, and tempt them into becoming owners
...very sad the lengths manufacturers will go to, in order to improve sales, grown the company etc ..
...lets hope Lotus never sell out completely...I dont want to be driving a 1.3ton "Exige 300" sport that costs £70K in 3 years time

I was more annoyed with myself for trying to justify why the S1 was made "basic"
I can fully understand people asking questions & wondering why it wouldnt come with "mod cons"
but i draw the line at knob jockeys who automatically think that a car must be cheap & nasy just because it doesnt come with the usual extras.

As my Exige S has leather seats, leccy windows, central locking and AC, does that make me a knob

...tell us that if your Exige had manual windows and no aircon that you would not have been interested in it in the slightest, and of course we WILL all call you a gay Yw@

People talk the good fight wanting weight to be priority number 1, but last time i checked sales of hardcore lotus's like the 2-11 and 340r were measured in 100s rather than thousands, ppl who spend big bucks on new cars want modern technology, if lotus want to survive they need to offer that on the mainstream and then spin off a few hardcore varients for the diehards, whose numbers dwindle rapidly when they asked to put there money were there mouths are and buy such an in reality impractical car

That's pretty well the point the previous poster was making, in order to sell numbers Lotus has to put in the gadgets and gizmos (and in order to meet safety regs as well), but the point of a lotus is that it achieves it's performance through lightweight, rather than through big power. In any case, when push comes to shove we all sacrifice something in return for usability. If I had the spare cash though I would be looking at the 2-11 as a weekend and trackday toy, since I don't, I have an S2 K series car which offers a bit of both and I can run it everyday.
Lightweight is king though for Lotus or at least it should be.

Absolutely i think you'l find it went the other way
The road cars got heavier and less reliable, but i doubt lotus would be here today in the form it is now, had colin stuck to making 7s
I'm talking about the GP cars. If they stayed together Sir Jim Clark or Graham Hill won. Very fast but fragile. The road cars got heavier and less reliable, but i doubt lotus would be here today in the form it is now, had colin stuck to making 7s
