I want to hire a skip - the 'standard' size oens - I think they;re called builders skips - the most common sized ones you see outside peopels houses

Needed for one day on private propety (off road)

Anyone want to guess a rough price I should be looking at paying?

Depends where you are but I would think you'd be looking at £130 and upwards in the SE.

Not if he has pikeys in the area, when I was redoing my house I refilled it three times before I had to pay for the thing to go.

All depends on what you're getting rid of!

upwards of £100 for SE i'd imagine.

sounds a lot but its not simply the hiring of the skip you are paying for these days, the main cost is in the waste disposal.

I've had 3 x 7 yard skips this year, at £130 quid each. There was no discount for only having them on the drive for an hour each...It probably depends how much the skip company has to pay to dump each one in your area.

I am in hampshire

it will mainly be garden waste - i.e mud/soil and maybe some branches and then probably loads of old pieces of wood from furniture and then possibly lots of old bricks and paving slabs.

I could probably burn the wood and branches but how can i get rid of the bricks?

I would probably store all the crap in the garden and then fill the skip up in one day..

I had a load of hardcore that needed removing from my drive 2 days ago. Rather than get a skip I called a waste removal 'firm' (well actually a transit full of local pikeys) They turned up & took the lot for £80! Jobs a good'un.

A skip would have cost me £120 + vat! wink

When you use the local pikeys, make sure none of the waste can be traced back to your address, seeing as it will end up fly-tipped somewheresmile

And to the OP, definitely fill it up in one day...if you don't, your neighbours will!

if you can be bothered doing so, consider hiring a van.

for me, a skip costs £80 + vat for a day [usu. 9-5pm] whereas i can hire a lwb transit for £65 for the entire weekend. council tip is only a couple of miles away so i usually create a huge pile of [bagged] rubbish before taking the cheaper option. good exercise too!

We had a couple of skips (huge industrial sized ones)hired at work and stored in the warehouse to fill with some old stock. Some pikeys broke in emptied the contents on the floor of the warehouse and stole the empty skips !!irked

Around £120-130 plus VAT for a 12 yard skip round here.

Builders' skips are 6 yards IIRC.

There's no time charge - just call them when you've finished with it.

You'll need a licence from local authority if they are placed anywhere off your property, including verge.

I only ever use covered skips now. Last open skip I had became the epicentre for a community recycling scheme. Any metal, doors etc got taken out and replaced by broken telly's, fridges, sofas etc!

I pay £100 for a covered skip. The cost is the diesel / man hours to deliver it and collect it plus the cost to dispose / sort the material in it. Time is usually not an issue to the skip hire companies. (I've had my current skip for nearly two months now!)

Bear in mind that landfill tax is £32 a tonne at the minute. Hardcore and soil attracts a lower rate of tax (£2.50) so if you are putting nothing but bricks / concrete and soil in it (assuming you are doing a driveway) you would be best off telling the skip hire co in advance.

You can hire a skip in southampton for about £170 inc VAT, and you can fill it with what you want and can have it for maximum og 2 weeks with one firm we use.

I can recomend

HTS Skips, haven't got there number on me but i can get it for you.

Depends where you are in hants though??
