Has anyone experienced an early 3.0 Auto S Type not shifting out of park?

The car has done 108000 miles with FJSH.

Any Ideas?

Thanks.

Could be brake pedal switch. Do the brake lights work?

Can you hear the solenoid clunking when the brake pedal pressed?

Have you tried taking the hand brake off and rocking the car on the park ratchet, these can wear out, most noticeable it you park on a steep drive, so the weight of the car is resting on it.

Hi, yes we have looked at brake pedal switch and we could hear the solenoid clunking.

The car has recently had (nearly two months ago), the fault codes read and the following 'pressure control solenoid' codes came up: PO734, PO735, PO745, 0795. These were re-set and the car has driven faultlessly since with no gearbox fault warnings appearing on the dashboard. The car played up this afternoon whilst being taken into a garage for some other work to be done and got stuck in park whilst on a ramp. The mechanic got it out of park by disconnecting something (I don't know what exactly) whilst underneath the car with the engine running (I was sat in it at the time!) and selecting drive in this way. This was only to get the car off the ramp though and has of course not fixed the problem, as the car is now permanently in drive and will not start as a result.

Do I have a major internal problem with the box here or is it something electrical?

Thanks

It's sorted. It had recently had a new selector solenid fitted by a previous owner. Turns out that the part was not correctly fitted, hence the problem. Now doing what it's supposed to do.

Apparently it is quite a common problem.

There is a service fix for it in the form of a new rooster comb.

There is a technical bulletin on this issue on all of the 5 speed transmissions in the S-type. The bulletin is S307-16. The profile of the internal control lever in the trans. is too sharp causing them to hang and is much worse on an incline. The new lever has a more rounded profile letting the lever move more freely.
