Adjusting the Idle

Last week i adjusted the idle position to remove some of the play in the throttle pedal, i managed to remove any play but now seem to get the car stalling quite alot when i press the clutch in while stopping at junctions/traffic lights.

Any advice on how to cure this?

I think the ECU is based on pedal position? you may have to adjust the ECU, i could be wrong im sure someone will explain more in detail.

The throttle position has a very narrow window where the ECU is happy. It is best to adjust idle when the car is warmed up and we in the US utilize our laptops and the diagnostic program given to us by 1g Racing. This allows you to see a more accurate rpm than the in car tach provides at low rpm. If you adjust the rpms beyond the ECU's "happy spot" the engine will start "hunting" and you will experience stalling as you describe. Dial the throttle plate screw back until it stops hunting. Then you should also reset the adaptive maps so that the ECU starts over with its learning process at the new setting. This is also easily done with the diagnostic program.

Put the idle screw back to the correct position using the instructions furnished above in caccobra's post.

Remove the play in the throttle pedal by using the cable adjustment on the end of the cable housing, where it's attached to the top of the intake manifold. If you've maxed out the adjustment there, you can also adjust the cable under the dash. Leave a little slack in the cable, so that the throttle blade is sure to completely close onto the idle screw when you're off the throttle pedal. Also, check to make sure that when the throttle pedal is all the way down, the throttle opens completely and that the throttle is stopped by the floor, not by the throttle cable. Otherwise, you have a good chance of pulling the end off the cable when you stomp on the pedal.

Yeh i did adjust it but the threaded bar on top of the inlet manifold, on start up it idles fine, but when stopping at lights and i press the clutch it dies, i guess i'll just have to keep fiddling until its happy.
