Hello all, after a bit of advice from those willing to share...

My g/f's sister has just been offered a job in Redditch, starting on the 20th! She now needs to find somewhere to live, as a commute from Swansea to Redditch just isn't possible. Can anyone give me some advise to pass on, about the place and also what good letting agents are around. She's trawling the web at the mo, but I thought a little local knowledge would just help... especially as time is tight.

She's looking to rent, prob a 1-2 bed, with her partner.

Virtual beers, and hat doffing to all who can help!

Thanks in advance!

Jep

Ah, yes, that may help paperbag

No idea where in Redditch, but it's Gems TV if that's any help, and she doesn't drive either...

Budget, I guess, will be at lower-mid end of the scale.

Mappleborough Green end then, well out of Redditch central biggrin

She'll be relying on buses.

She 'should' be fine.

Outskirts (where they are) tend to be industrial/housing estate mixes.

There is an Agent in Astwood Bank that is good, but with no car, she is best off going into the Centre for Agents so she can get to them.

Is that pub with the water wheel in the middle still there?, i distinctly remember the lads there fought like girls, no match for northern grit! (this happened back in 1993, on a boozy stag do for my brummie brother in law, some bint got offended at my observations of her chesticles and all hell broke loose)

Ok, thanks Ali.

Apparently they're off there tomorrow to have a look round. Budget's £600 pcm, and as her partner's got a car, they're ok for finding places.

So, apart from the centre of Redditch, where else should they try?

Thanks again.

I guess they just need to focus on the area that she is working in, South Moons Moat.

Most of it is similar - tis one of 'those planned' towns hehe

Like most places, you can tell where to avoid as you drive thru it wink

If she is unsure, stick the area up & I'll dregdge my memory banks biggrin

Take it you mean the Washford Mill that should have gone under water back then, been refurbed recent. Sorry to go off topic, just answering Skinnys question.

Washford Mill was closed for about 8 months after the 2007 floods. It was refurbed due to the flood but TBH needed it anyway.

Jep - we're in Ipsley which is nice and very close to Mappleborough Green. Also only 2 miles from the town centre. I'll look in our local paper tonight for agents.

Cheers FFG, that's a very kind offer. thumbup

However, I got home last night to be told that they've spent the day up there and got somewhere that they *should* be able to move into at the weekend! When I know more, I'll let you know (if anyone's interested that is!), but in the mean time, thanks for all your help.

The Cricketers Arms was my Local back in 1986/87.

Used to frequent the Arrow valley working mens club to play bingo and get cheaper beer.

I Lived overlooking a big roundabout on st geaorges road.

A mate lived in the Police Station. (He still is a Bib) Next to the Queens head.

There's not really a bad bit TBH.

It's not the sort of place that encorages living without a car, lots of dual carriage ways and very spreadout.

The train to Brum takes Forever.

Jep,
Most of the agents appear to be on Church Green East or West, which is right in the town cenre by the church/cathedral thing.
Get a weekly free paper so will keep one aside if you need more info.

£600 doesn't seem to get much from what I can see, maybe 2/3 bedroon with off road parking at a push. There's a nioce bungalow at £650 through www.tyrell-letting.co.uk on Milford Road, with garage and looks very presentable, available now. Can't see that much else without stretching further.

my girlfriend lives in matchbourgh which seems to be a nice area everyone in her close saids hello to each other etc.
there seems to bee a good bus service currently operating as a price war has broken out between two rival firms so bs travel is pretty cheap at the moment which could be handy for your g/f sister,
My girlfriends mum lives in Studley and there are a few nice houses for sale in her road.

Redditch as a whole is ok in most areas. I've also been looking for a first place around the same budget but i currently live here so i guess i knew where to start.

The better areas for your budget would be as stated...Matchborough also Church Hill North, Oakenshaw, Webheath where I have found decent buys/ rent for the money. There are a select few in other areas but for those areas its definatly easy to get to places without any hold up.

Haven't had any dealings with estate agents yet apart from a friend of a friend for advice so cant help there.

All the best.

I'm a very irregular visitor to this forum so apologies for the late thread resurrection, however I live in Redditch, Oakenshaw in fact. Right next door to me is a 4-bed detached property whose owners are desperate to rent it out. Desperate-enough to take a "reasonable" offer.

PM me if anyone is interested.

I went to college there and on my 1st day the town centre was closed off due to a murder, this was back in autumn 2000 like.
