Should the govt have bailed out the banks?
Poll: Should the govt have bailed out the banks?
Total Members Polled: 142
Discussion
This poll should have been aimed at just Tory voters - it would have presented them with a conundrum.
Vote for a 'socialist' measure (part nationalisation) and save the bankers and there own hides or against it and remain true to their free market ideals but possibly lose their jobs etc...

Of course the alternative would have been to not let the situation get so bad in the first place by dithering until the point that there was no alternative. But something tells me that your unable to see beyond your own rather narrow dogma. OK, so from what I know a few banks have signed up to this bailout thing.
But none of them have (yet) asked for any money have they? So, in theory, other than being prepared to do whats necessary, and injecting some money into the finance system, all thats going to be paid out in the short term is to Icesave customers

Agreed.
If you cant abide Socialism surely you can only answer "keep your noses out of business...so take your money and piss off thanks".
But its amazing how many free marketeers have their hands outstretched...

I love these conundrums - they really screw with peoples ideals and bring into sharp relief both extremes willingness to bend over and take it roughly from the other side when needs must.

The bank crises is the one thing, short of David Cameron being found buggering a headless child's corpse, that will win him the next election.
Now the poor state of the country's finances can be blamed on having to bail the banks out, not Labour incompetance.
If the banks survive, all hail Labour. If the banks fail, blame the greedy bankers. Heads you win, tails they lose. How ironic.

Yes, the government never, ever interfered with how the City operated, and they certainly don't rely on the taxes and business it brings in.But its amazing how many free marketeers have their hands outstretched...

Of course...there are dilemmas for both sides of the political spectrum.

If you are a racist and hate black people, then find yourself drowning and the only man with a rope is a black man, would you drown or ask for help?
Obviously, you would get him to pull you out, then lynch him from the nearest tree with the rope.Edited by Trommel on Thursday 9th October 12:46
