wet car

Hi. My car has now been to 2 garages, had three repairs and its still not working properly.....so hopefully the experts can help!

The biggest problem is that the inside of the car in the morning is wet. The windows have water running down them its so bad. A few months ago just after that started to happen my heater stopped working. I got the resistor repaired but after a couple of weeks its blew again. Last month the heater failed again, a new resistor has been installed but once again this morning the heater in certain modes wont work and the car is wet so its seems as if something is burning out the resistor. ( I usually recognise a slight smell of smoke jsut before it fails)

During this time the floor of the car has been soaking as well and by now I've had the door seals & window seals replaced. Its hard to work out if the 'leak' is causing the condensation or if its an unrelated problem.....but all in all I'm losing the will to live and after doing 39000 in three years I'm wondering if its time to sell her......

I'd say your resistor blowing is due to the constant moisture. Has the car had any work done to the front (collison repair or similar)?

no. I had a wheel bearing changed and thats about all. Would that make a difference?

When I took my heater out last year I noticed where the cable enters the box there was a clod of sticky sealant-type material. Presumably this was to keep moisture from running along the cable into the box. Might be worth checking to see if water can get in there.

I was thinkling along the lines of if the front was rebuilt or messed about with for any (ligitmate?) reason and not resealed properly then I would expect this kind of issue.

Usual source of water ingress is via corroded floor panels and/or rear window seal. If it's the floor panels at fault (v common) then I'm afraid it's a tedious and messy job, removing, cleaning, sealing and refitting the panels with oversize rivets. No short cut (if this is the source of the problem).

Yup. This can also be coming from around the heater box.

a simple trick is to fit some plastic washer hose around the inside of the door seal to push it out - the door will seal fine

i suspect that yes its the floor that is leaking

are you loosing any water from the cooling system ?

The resistor pack on the Noble fan unit is a joke,
You can fit a more reliable fan unit (with proper resistor pack) from a ford Escort MkV IIRC, you have to cut two plastic webs away and drill a couple of new mounting holes but it is identical in size and shape otherwise and it will be a more reliable fan unit for it.
