Aerial photos of your house
Discussion
A man just came to my door offering to sell me an aerial photo of my house from many moons ago.
I was interested until he told me it was £60!! Which i thought was a bit steep for a photo.
Anyway, it got me thinking if there is anywhere on the internet that i can find aerial photos of my house? - The older the better and obviously free if possible!! The only ones i've found are zoomed right out like you get on Google Earth...

Hire of light aircraft, petrol, insurance, pilot with commercial licence - the print is the easy bit. Could you do it for less?Besides, he was telling me he gets them from a company he used to work for who give him access to their library, so i doubt it cost him more than 10mins of his time and a printer.
Why on earth bother with an aircraft of some sort?
A remote control helicopter is the way to do it
(I had a business idea for this many moons ago - a helicopter, with suitable stablisiers for the camera, and you go knocking door to door, which enables the people to cut their lawn, get washing in, move cars etc - or just agree a time to come back, then show them the shots when you take it. Never got any further with it though

Then the Millenium Map was produced in...errr....2000. First tiled overhead photography in the UK that could be found via coordinates IIRC. Since then I think "they" have done may more overhead surveys at different heights and resolutions. There was a map site that you could view Google/live earth at the same time and flick between the two. The really cool ones are adding height data to buildings too so you can do 3D - useful for site lines etc for developments.
Set timer on camera.....then throw it as high in the air as you can, ideally over the roof of your house....then run round and catch it....print picture out, job done.
NB, you may need to try a few times to get the right orientation and focus.
And you might need a new camera if you catch like a girl
