Peeps,
Just had a call from the dealership in Darlington and my issues have been resolved. Firstly the lumpy idle I felt is a trait of the VXRs, it's not a very noticeable 'tick' however it didn't feel like a normal V8 rotation or burble to me. So I can relax on that.

However what concerns me more is that the oil leak/smell/burning was caused solely by a very badly fitted oil filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Brown at the dealership has taken photos, however he has stated that "it wasn't even hand tight, I could rotate it with me fingers"

So there'll be a nice long letter going to the Blaydon dealership both from myself and the Darlington service department.

I wonder if the low pressure and possible oil starvation have caused any long term issues. I will make sure this is recorded on the service log, warranty file and hard copies of the correspondence are kept. Therefore if something does occur in the distant future I may be able to being this incident into reference.

As mentioned before I do drive very sensibly, I don't think I've had the car over 3,000rpm since purchase so hopefully I haven't done any damage.

happy days

I can rid myself of the horrible 1.3 diesel corsa, woop woop!

There would only be damage if the oil presure light had come on and you kept driving.

lol what the hell you buy from Blaydon for?

Mike Brown at Sherwoods of Darlington is top bloke m8... really goes out of his way to put the V8s right.

Well Mike Brown has stated that there's nothing wrong with my VXR, however I'm quite a petrol head and I can feel a misfire, it's even popping on idle. You can hear the engine turning over and ten 'der der' of the misfire.

Not overly impressed to be honest. I can't believe the oil filter fiasco, they tried to charge me 1 hours labour for fixing it, I simply pointed the lass on the desk at the selling dealership and said "get it from them".

I really want some other VXR owner in the North East to confirm that my car is NOT running correctly. Although there's no warning messages aand no error codes (Mike's comment) the whole car is juddering and hiccuping on idle when sat still.

Very depressing entry to Monaro ownership.

I bought it from Blaydon as they were the only dealership with one in for this price with low mileage.

Spoken to Darlington service dept and they've told me to bring it in and to take Mike out for a spin to show him the issue.

I just hope it still does it when I get there....

Disagree. While the oil light coming on is clearly a bad thing some may remember that I had a big end failure that led to a major engine rebuild and had no warning from either light or pressure gauge.

I would certainly be keeping all documentation and making sure just in case - also make sure you keep on checking your oil level to be sure.

Well just so you know, the VXR is back to fighting fit. Mike spotted the cause of the troubles and it was a faulty spark plug, from the looks of the damage on the outer edge of the plug it had someone been arking and conecting with the block [scortch makes on ceramic part of the plug] and that's what had ben causing my misfire.

Mike then went on to compare my VXR to another that was in the garage [what luck!] and the idle bubbling or gentle rocking was apparent on both of them (both 56 plate VXRs).

So my list of issues has been ...

oil leak - badly fitted oil filter by some ass clown in Blaydon.
Misfire - buggered spark plug
Notchy gear box - trait of the car
GEntle rumble/rock on idle - trait of the car

So I'm back to being a happy petrol head.

Mike did spot my rear tyre had 1.5mm of tread on it, which go against the Network Q safety inspection as all cars should have 5mm or above when being sold. Yet another trip to Blaydon to not only call the head tech, who fitted my oil filter an ass badger, but also to whine about my nigh on illegal tyre!

I can tell you were I will be getting all my work done and where I wont from now on!

Was gonna suggest either HT lead, coil pack or spark plug problem.Bet it was the plug nearest the driver, its a C**t to get to aswell .I had almost the same problem after buying my second hand cv8 o4,popping on idle not quite feeling right but i was getting engine code faults/check engine lights to be fair. When i took mine back it turned out to be ht lead not fitted properly.Gives real piece of mind when they cant even get this sort of stuff right on a service doesnt it

Actually thinking about it again i bet the spark plug knackered up BECAUSE at some point maybe the HT lead was loose perhaps?
If it is the spark plug nearest the driver id suggest the "apprentices" have a lot of difficulty getting access to it.£50 an hour for a 17 yo on £3.50 an hour to do it wrong for you..hmmmmm value for money

Noose I live 10 mins drive from Raggy Mans house, I can see the Arena from where I live, just off the Redheugh bridge, Gateshead side. The new town houses on the hill.

Yer, it was all covered under warranty. get in. Now off to Blaydon later to see what they are going to do about my bald tyre!!
