Why ban Rammage?
Please don't misinterpret this as the boys club sticking together.
I don't know the bloke other than he's a rather strange internet persona.
However I do believe he is hilarious as are pretty much all of his posts.
Even though I suspect you, the mods, disagree with this point you've got to admit that the majority in P&P would agree with me.
Anyway, back to my point. The thread in question was no different in any way shape or form to every comment he has made since the day he joined here.

RR was a character of the site no question, but he was chatted to many times over the past few weeks by various mods regarding the content of his posts on P&P.
You've been here long enough to know that P&P is a forum for non- motoring banter, and over the years many call for us to raise the level of content in there to avoid it becoming similar to Zoo and Nuts. Seems these days that every thread encourages posting pictures of girls and that does one thing- attracts the wrong sort of user. It attracts those that have no interest in cars, and just want to log on and look at girl threads- the exact type of person that most PHers say have ruined PH over the years.
I like P&P and spend plenty of time in there myself, but we need to maintain a level of decency. By that I don't mean make it boring, but certainly (to use an old Ted phrase) raise the bar a little. There are plenty of forums on the net to visit if you want that sort of thing- all we are trying to do is keep the site to a respctable level.
RR was aksed not to continue to start that type of thread and he chose not to listen, we can't keep asking the same thing. As I say, you are an old hand around here and know what's what, all we want to do is keep P&P for funny banter and avoid attracting the school boys.

Its a bloody tricky thing to solve mate. P&P is the only thread that seems to attract the 'show car' owners, and quite franky I want to stop it. Having a laugh is one thing, it becoming a w

When I started on PH, most of you called for it not to change. Sadly it has changed and we are all trying to get back on top of things and stop P&P becoming the school boys favourite.

There will be many threads you could hightlight and say 'what about this one' but as we're doing what people ask for and getting PH back on track. Would it be too much to ask for a bit of understanding? We do our very best to keep on top of problem threads.
We'll continue to do our best to make PH a great site.

In fairness though Garlick, the ramblings of Rammage are pretty funny. Christ, even if you don't find it amusing at the very least its spelt correctly. Why not go the whole way and ban all the geniunely funny posters on this site? I mean that way, you won't have to worry about anyone enjoying the non-motoring aspects of this site at all.

Years ago when the site was run by Ted, I was one of a few known as the “nob gag crew” – we didn’t even get close to posting what now goes on in the P&P. We are asked to stop, or expect a ban. Most stopped, a few pushed it and got a ban.
The person who owns the ball has changed, the person who does the banning has changed, but in reality posters get away with a s
tload more than they did a few years back.I’m not defending the PH mods, just saying what I see….

In response to a few points. I am certainly more lenient with regards to posts that perhaps ted used to be- maybe that's where it went wrong.
As to what rules did RR break? Well as Podie says, a spell in the bin used to be enough to sort most things out. When you have to constantly use the bin to try and get a point across, and you fail, it can only go on for so long.
