My Girlfriend's Brother is doing a B-TEC and their family is worried that he is under-selling himself in that he is capable of doing A-Levels and has the grades at GCSE to enable him to do so.

He states that the opportunities will be very similar come the end of the course and that he will be able to go to a decent university for further study.

Mum and Dad don't agree.

What do you folks think??

Have taught elements of this course in the past. He will be able to go onto university from it. From experience if he is planning a sports related career then his degree will be better after the BTEC than after A levels.

HNC is uni level anyway, are you sure its not an Advanced diploma? Thats the A level equivalent.

Sorry, that will be it. But they fear it isn't on a par with A-Levels. In your experience, is it?

Well I know of a number of students that have done well in that course and moved onto university. Because of the way the course is ran if someone does well on it the adapt to uni much better than an A level student.

I have a Btec in Sports Science. Good course depends on what you want to do with it after.

I am a Student Paramedic and it was good to go into the course with a basic grasp of A and P from the Btec. Was worthwhile to me anyway.
