Since 2003.....

Lots of money for little work. Granted lots of studying to get to that point.

It's a very important and valid job, is it really good value for money?

Government signed a foolish contract with the GPs. The GPs then did what was needed in those contracts to get the extra payments. Just like anyone else would do.

I don't have a problem with it the GPs doing that. If you want to get annoyed, have a go at the government for agreeing to the deal.

I though being a GP was quite a demanding job.

Indeed... They might earn lots, but when do they get a chance to spend it?

Well I see a different side to it, anything they are not sure about then they just refer to hospital to specialists.

Turned up for a women in labour the other day in a GP surgery, head crowning and 4 GP's breathing a big sigh of relief when we walked in. Not one prepared for actually delivering or reassuring the mother.

Also often very reluctant to come and do home visits in my experience.

Are you actually serious?

If it's so easy or doable, why aren't you doing it since you're also in healthcare?

Fantastic value for money, are you mad?

Just ask anyone who has had a serious health problem.

+1

Looks back at where I was 5 years ago, 58% over 5 years isn't that extraordinary.

What's that got to do with it? If I wanted to go that route I would of done so. I work in a different field of medicine which compared to the over inflated salaries GP's get is vastly underpaid for effectively doing the GP job for them half the time.

Indeed the GP system is so bad in this country people ring 999 before the GP because they no there is no chance of getting one out.

That is not to say there are some excellent GP's out there who do genuinely care and do the right thing by the patient.

So you work harder than a GP and effectively do the same job as a GP BUT for much less money ?

No wonder you're bhing about them. hehe

So why didn't you become a GP then? I mean, you're doing their job for them, you must be able to do it right?

My sisters a part time GP (3 small children ...) so I'm probably a little biased in my views ...

She does a couple of days a week, starts around 7:00, gets home around 22:00 every day she works.
Pays a considerable amount each year for courses, memberships of various bodies and insurance, oh, and solicitors.
Has to be prepered for "accusations" (people trying to sue for made up reasons), she gets a couple a year probably on average (hence the solicitors costs), they never come to anything as she's done nothing wrong.

I'd say for all that crap, she deserves the money ...

I hope you don't call your self a health care professional as you don't come across as one. Most people don't ring 999 for help unless its out of hours or they have a similar intellectual capacity to you. And the out of hours thing is prevent Dr's doing 20 hour days which they had done for generations. You cant expect someone to be up all night and be sharp for surgeries in the mornings and last any length of time in a career. And they are paid well because they tend to be academic achievers and the career choices tend to be Banking, Law, Accountancy or medicine.

There are some bad GP's but the vast majority do a great job.

I wouldn't criticise a GP for doing his job, but I migth criticise a government who make a deal to pay a good deal more to get less work in return.

And that is an untruth...

Its not less work.

They were given targets, they excelled(being gifted) and achieved their targets. In may cases the Doctor's paid the PCT's back money so the PCT's provided out of hours services... in some regions they were forced to.

You are fed anti doc propaganda on a daily basis by pct and Gov spin machines as they feel their only way to fight is dirty via conjuration of envy and exaggeration of Doc's pay..
