I need to buy the cheapest possible car battery for a 1.8 Mondeo.

It has to be new, and it has to work for 3 months but after that the car will be sold.

Can anybody recommend a particular brand or source - ideally in the Leicestershire area.

Many thanks.

I know they are mainly a german part supplier, but recently bought a battery from euro car parts for a golf for something like £22. 3 year warranty too!

I went to performance batteries and their battery cost 50 quid.

Is it Euro Car Parts that sells the cheap batteries or is there anybody else that you can think of.

Thanks.

The problem I have is I have to have a black one , easy you might think as Halfords ones are black but they would have to order mine so can,t guarantee the colour , its a small 037 with flat terminals , suggestions welcome.

See if you can get a Halfords trade card (they'll give you one no quibbles if you show you work in any sort of car trade) or borrow someone else and battery's are usually about 45% off. I paid £35 for a £59.99 battery for a Golf GTi

Pick up your local Yellow Pages (or use yell.com) and look for motor factors. I got my Bosch Silver 2 for around 40% of the cheapest garage price I could find.

I think you are missing the point.

I could get a great battery from a great guy in Leicester but it will not be cheap. I want a cheap battery.

I live in the States and my enthusiasm for getting up and phoning 20 assorted morons at unknown parts suppliers in the Leicester area for the "cheapest battery you have, mate" is virtually nil.

Telling me to the blindingly obvious is not helpful.

Telling me who you have found the be the cheapest is much more useful

a) to save my phone bill.
b) to put some business their way, help keep them in business and hopefully help some other PHer in the future by offering good parts at cheap prices.

Yes, but even if they weren't I'm just a cheapskate.

Oh dear they are getting difficult to get hold of now, majority of the big Manufacturers are trying to drop the 097 case (Sierra 2.0etc with bolt through lugs) and last time I tried to get hold of an 037 my supplier tried to fob me off with a lawn motor battery! 038 with terminal convertors (bolts to battery lead) thumbup

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. My point was that if a Bosch Silver was that cheap, a cheap one (there were 2 options) would have been even cheaper.

Nice attitude you've got there Gav. I'd say any help you were going to get just evaporated.

Probably.

But having contributed to this site for around 5 years and having seen some incredibly helpful replies to a whole variety of topics that are automotive this one stood out as possibly being the least helpful. Ever.

If somebody said "use joe bloggs motor factors" to get an "El cheapo" brand battery that might be useful, because that's what I want. "Use the yellow pages" isn't.

Or, of course, the situation may have changed considerably in the TWO YEARS since the thread started........

Yeah your right. The situation could have changed a lot, with all them new retailers selling car batteries as if they are cans of coke.

If you don't have anything useful to say, then don't comment. It is people like you that ruin forums!!!

Is it really hard to believe that a good value retailer would not sell good value items after 2 years??? Think about it! I was not asking specific prices, merely good place to start looking!
